State Tries to Close Internet Portal

The government agency tasked with regulating the media is seeking to shut down a popular, independent online news agency in the Altai region called Bankfax after an anonymous reader posted a reprint of a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed on its forum and called for the destruction of Islam.

Printing the cartoons is one thing, but calling for the destruction of Islam is a totally different thing all together. People who call publicly for the destruction of Islam should be locked up in jail.

So, I don't think Russia caved - I think they did the right thing.

A joke is a joke some will laugh some won't care others may whine. Taking action or a call for action is different, I agree with Drew.

Anways, it was an anonymous poster on their forums. The whole agency shouldn't suffer for that. They should remove that particular entry and get information from the agency to try and track the poster instead.

Not all of America is civlized....we have plenty of slums in America. There are many muslims that want peace in Palestine but you refuse to believe so. Its weird how us muslims have to defend ourselves on this forum and we are made into the enemy when in reality its people like old-reb. That fact that he labels over 1 billion people by the actions of less than .000002% of them is what makes him a racist asshole.

Failing to see that any relgion is equally exploitable (and has been exploited) and pinning it all on islam rather then power mongers and extremists is what makes him a racist asshole.

He's too daft to learn from numerous examples and history rather then the flavor of the month.

Remember though - almost all muslims labelled a complete hemisphere of the globe based on the actions of a handful of cartoonists. It's not unusual.

I think when you see riots in the streets across many nations then something is more easily labelled.

And during that time you guys were also able to make enemies out of every country in the world. I know America is the most technologically advanced country in the world but the muslim world has made contributions to the world. I had never said they created oil and without their oil we have no life basically. And algebra is used all over the world so trying to discredit that is lame.

Indeed the arab world made som major contributions to science in the 11-13th century. Since then, unfortunatly, practically nothing.

People will have their religion and their governments no matter what. But there are good and bad governments and religions.

I think Christianity was a bad religion at one time and possibly is the cause of the dark ages. When your word is Gods word then you don't have to answer to any earthling about what you do.

I think a totalitarian government is the most efficent and would be the best and maybe Islam was that way at one time but now it is run by fanatics who are hanging onto destructive beliefs.

Hitlers totalitarian government brought germany out of the depression and made a strong and proud nation but total power made Hitler drunk for more wealth and power but the free nations banded together to defeat him and keep their freedom.

At the time Islam is a bad religion because it is totalitarian; also is split into many factions and each faction is totalitarian and fighting the other faction.
I don't know how Islam could be moderated but I have an idea that if it had a single leadership like the pope that that person or group would be responsible for all Muslim actions and would moderate the radicals. As it is now, nobody is responsible for anything that Muslims do. Pakistan is not respondible for Kashmir terrorist and the PA is not responsible for splinter groups terrorism.

That reminds me. My old Southern Baptist preacher used to say that the old testament was of God when he was cruel and vengeful but the New testament what when he became forgiving and loving.

Maybe they Muslims could have a New Koran to supercede the old Jihad Koran.

I don't remember all the details but when you study the old testament you will find God to be demanding, jealous and vengeful. Strict rules like the commandments. In the new testament God is will forgive your sins if you confess and or publically declare that you believe that Jesus died for your sins.

Old testament, Sodoim and Gemoria destoryed because God couldn't find one good person.

Lets face facts - muslim nations have not exactly contributed very much to the worlds development. Algebra 2000 years ago? That's a long time ago & it's hardly world shaking, somebody else would have invented it if he hadn't.

Muslim nations are simply lucky to be sitting on Oil - it's not any kind of achievement. Getting it out of the ground is the achievement & it's western companies that do that for the muslim countries.

I think given the oil wealth generated from Oil & the generally backwards undeveloped nature of muslim countries even with such oil wealth - then Oil is not a good story for those countries. It's an embarrasing story.

This is not any kind of racist comment - it's just reality.

They most certainly are not lucky. That very fact has probably set the Middle East back a hundred years when it comes to modern development. Regions with natural resources only benefit from them if they can use them and protect them themselves. If they can't, other nations come in and take them.

That doesn't preclude them from developing their own technology. Quite the contrary, actually, for it gives them a leg up politically and geographically. That aside, I'm not completely discounting your statement. Historically speaking, I understand the point you're trying to make...

Yes, they did have a choice, however I'll make the concession that it was late in the game.

We gave them control of their own resources in the early 60's, and since then, what have they done to change their situation or advance their cause? Honestly, apart from the region being rife with corrupt leadership, religious fanaticism, and perpetual warfare, nothing's changed in 2000 years. To be completely honest, (and don’t laugh) I blame their religion. It's fundamentally essential for these people to realize that it's been the sole cause of their collective stagnation. In other words, their devotion to the manufactured concepts of heritage, tradition, and "Allah's will" have kept them stuck in the Stone Age, and it's the steadfast dedication to these core principles that have fucked them as a people technologically, politically, and socially. JMO.
