Mardi Gras In Iraq

By: Lainey's Photo Website

Mardi Gras in Iraq you say? That's right, who better to pull it off than a bunch of cajuns from the Louisiana National Guard! We had a parade and everyone was out there to watch the floats, catch beads, and have a good time...just another event that made soldiers feel more at home. We were even given the opportunity to drink a couple of beers, yes real beer...courtesy of the great folks at Budweiser! The photos are a combination of the parade and the beer drinking in the DFAC afterwards.

I went to a Mardi Gras parade in Port Allen, a tiny town in west Baton Rouge. Many of the 'floats' were old guys pulling their raggety old fishing boats, with beat up old women throwing beads. The sort of thing one can only appreciate properly liquored up. How did I get stuck with the only crew in South Louisiana who didn't know how to party?
