Is that a determination for a mere member of the human race to make?
~Sal~
09-24-2006, 12:29 PM
If not for a mere member of the human race, who or what would determine such?
es347fan
09-24-2006, 12:42 PM
Is not this line of conversation based somewhat upon the existence of an Almighty, and if such a being exists, would that not be their call?
~Sal~
09-24-2006, 05:17 PM
Well if such a being does it exist, let's say for the sake of argument that they do....then why make THEM/HIM/HER responsible for our redemption...is that not victimizing ourselves and abdicating responsibility?
es347fan
09-24-2006, 05:19 PM
Perhaps, yet aren't virtually all religions heavily into guilt trips and giving oneself over to the Almighty?
~Sal~
09-25-2006, 08:55 AM
They are, they REALLy are... yet is that not truly the best way to control the masses... mind control at it's best?
es347fan
09-25-2006, 08:59 AM
It is one way, to be sure, yet are we not today - as history has shown - witness to a display of the absolute pitfalls of such control?
~Sal~
09-25-2006, 04:02 PM
Yes there are definitely huge pitfalls becoming apparent, but wouldn't you say that was only displayed by the few rather than the majority thereby proving that it works to a large degree?
es347fan
09-25-2006, 05:01 PM
Given the almost shocking response world wide to the pontiff's recent comments is that majority shrinking?
~Sal~
09-26-2006, 09:00 AM
Shrinking, well yes, however what other kind of choice do we now have other than to correct that shrinking majority and focus on the good ones left?
es347fan
09-26-2006, 09:24 AM
Is there not more than a little truth in the adage: you spend 90% of your time on 10% of your people?
~Sal~
09-27-2006, 08:56 PM
Indeed there is more than a little truth in that, but how else can one correct poor thinking?
es347fan
09-27-2006, 09:33 PM
Hasn't the practice of cognitive-behavioral therapy been successful in that regard?
~Sal~
09-30-2006, 01:22 PM
(I was trying to give someone else a chance to jump in... but hell is beginning to freeze over so...)
The practise of cognitive-behavioral therapy is frequently very successful but I doubt it would help anyone that strident in their belief system, do you think it would???????????
es347fan
10-04-2006, 12:20 AM
If the person was troubled by that belief system would they not turn to almost anything that might offer hope of relieving that trouble?
shortstuff
11-09-2006, 04:45 AM
What is relief of their trouble and can they find it?
Sparky2
11-09-2006, 04:57 AM
And if that which they seek cannot be found, would they at least be willing to send me naked pictures of their hot auntie, fresh from the shower and glistening wet?
es347fan
11-09-2006, 07:49 AM
Who could resist such a plea?
shortstuff
11-12-2006, 04:05 PM
Is that plea sane or insane? LMAOROTFL
es347fan
11-12-2006, 08:43 PM
Is that really a concern?
The Dude
11-12-2006, 11:50 PM
Is what a concern??
es347fan
11-13-2006, 06:41 AM
If one is going to jump into the middle of a discussion, should they not at first bring themselves up to date by perusing the queries on page 28?
shortstuff
11-13-2006, 09:35 AM
Should we be concerned about sanity and insanity?
:flowers: :drinktoth
es347fan
11-14-2006, 06:15 AM
Are you insinuating that the health and welfare of others is of no concern?
shortstuff
11-14-2006, 09:26 AM
Can you ever be insulted if you are not concerned for others?
es347fan
11-14-2006, 09:29 AM
Would not one in that situation tend to take the insult as a possible indication of their behaviors and even encourage them to further repress their feelings?
shortstuff
11-14-2006, 09:46 AM
Can you ever repress someones feeling that doesn't want them to be?
~Sal~
11-14-2006, 05:45 PM
Repressing feelings is usually a conscious choice is it not?
shortstuff
11-14-2006, 06:28 PM
Is it or do people use that as an excuse?
Sparky2
11-14-2006, 06:31 PM
Is that why my ex-wife claimed I forgot each and every rotten thing I said or did (and she remembered, with cold and clinically-accurate detail); she didn't believe in the concept of repression?
shortstuff
11-14-2006, 06:36 PM
Can we repress our feeling or do they repress us?
~Sal~
11-14-2006, 06:50 PM
We can repress our feelings and by doing so they do repress us... rather circular is it not?
shortstuff
11-14-2006, 06:52 PM
Isn't life circular most of the time and if not how do we fix it?
es347fan
11-14-2006, 11:02 PM
Might you not trust in the old saying: "...better living through chemistry..."?
Napsterbater
11-14-2006, 11:05 PM
Self-medicating? Surely you meant, "Self-fellating?"
es347fan
11-15-2006, 08:49 AM
Is that a talent you have?
shortstuff
11-15-2006, 01:48 PM
IS it a talent we even care about?
Miss Kondukt
11-15-2006, 03:24 PM
And what is YOUR talent? :D
shortstuff
11-15-2006, 03:58 PM
Is it that talent that you are thinking of? LMAO
~Sal~
11-15-2006, 06:35 PM
Well is self-fellatiating a talent or merely a response to a lack of having one's basic human needs met?
shortstuff
11-15-2006, 07:39 PM
What are human needs and do we need them?
es347fan
11-15-2006, 09:36 PM
Self recycling?
shortstuff
11-15-2006, 10:11 PM
what and why self recycling?
es347fan
11-16-2006, 03:53 AM
Has that not been the most recent topic of this prolonged discussion?
shortstuff
11-16-2006, 12:38 PM
What is prolonged discussions any ways?
Ride4Life
11-16-2006, 12:43 PM
Why prolong the discussion if it serves no useful purpose?
shortstuff
11-16-2006, 01:14 PM
What is a useful purpose and how do we know it is?
es347fan
11-16-2006, 04:50 PM
Do you have reason to disbelieve?
MrsKimi
11-17-2006, 10:29 AM
Does disbelief make something less than real?
es347fan
11-17-2006, 02:27 PM
How many are there who still believe the Earth is flat?
MrsKimi
11-17-2006, 02:38 PM
If the earth is flat, where does it end?
es347fan
11-17-2006, 02:42 PM
Do you believe that to be germane to the topic at hand?
shortstuff
11-17-2006, 03:03 PM
Now what was the topic at hand and how does it relate?
es347fan
11-17-2006, 04:17 PM
Has your attention deficit disorder not shown improvement even with the multiple medications you're being provided?
shortstuff
11-17-2006, 06:36 PM
LMAO
Does medication ever really help or does it just mask it?
es347fan
11-19-2006, 07:08 AM
If the results are not intolerable, does the method truly matter?
~Sal~
11-19-2006, 08:08 AM
Method is justified by results so no, but then side effects would trump that wouldn't they?
es347fan
11-19-2006, 08:55 AM
If the side effects are controlled by other medications, would you have the same question regarding methodology?
~Sal~
11-19-2006, 12:46 PM
I believe so since at what point do you stop adding meds to counter act bad side effects?
WindWip
11-19-2006, 01:05 PM
When they become a vegetable?
es347fan
11-19-2006, 05:32 PM
Would it not be unethical to wait that long?
shortstuff
11-19-2006, 09:27 PM
What is unethical and how do you prove it?
~Sal~
11-19-2006, 09:41 PM
Well UNethical would definitely be allowing someone to reach a vegetative state due to the meds would it not?
es347fan
11-19-2006, 10:00 PM
Ethicality aside, did you ever stop to appreciate the significant leaps in technology brought about by the baby boomer generation?
~Sal~
11-20-2006, 08:17 AM
They have been amazing and open up so many different doors and make me wonder...what could possibly come next?
shortstuff
11-20-2006, 09:45 AM
Has science ever gone to far and how so?
es347fan
11-20-2006, 08:01 PM
Has science gone to far or is society simply not ready to acceept the findings of science?
~Sal~
11-20-2006, 09:34 PM
If society is not ready to accept the findings of science does that not indicate that the pace is too accelerated?
es347fan
11-21-2006, 06:36 AM
If the science is nuclear power and the populace at hand is a majority of illiterate nomads then perhaps you are correct, however would one truly expect to find the lines drawn that clearly in the sand?
~Sal~
11-21-2006, 08:48 AM
Well unfortunately although not nomadic, many people are illiterate and that obtuse and perhaps we should at least examine that aspect of things and then address the problem accordingly which would appropriate wouldn't it?
es347fan
11-21-2006, 02:13 PM
Could not the issue be tempered by furthering the education of the populace?
shortstuff
11-21-2006, 02:31 PM
The bigger question is would the populace get educated or stay oblivious to the issues?
es347fan
11-21-2006, 04:33 PM
Would not most be entirely to lazy to participate?
shortstuff
11-21-2006, 05:51 PM
Are most people to lazy or just don't understand the magnitude of the situation?
es347fan
11-22-2006, 06:39 AM
Look around you - are your compatriots merely lazy?
shortstuff
11-22-2006, 11:10 AM
Looks around and see what you are saying and wonders. " Do they all let life go by or do they now it is even moving?"
Ride4Life
11-22-2006, 11:25 AM
How could life be moving if time stands still?
es347fan
11-22-2006, 11:59 AM
Wasn't "Time Stands Still" a song and tour title by Rush?
shortstuff
11-22-2006, 01:44 PM
Is that the problem people see life as a song or is the song the problem?
Ride4Life
11-22-2006, 02:11 PM
Is a song a problem if it's written bad?
shortstuff
11-22-2006, 02:51 PM
Who can judge if it is bad song or if it is bad writing?
~Sal~
11-22-2006, 06:00 PM
If it does not move you at all does it matter?
shortstuff
11-22-2006, 06:17 PM
What matters is why the music doesn't move you isn't it?
What if you are immovable?
shortstuff
11-23-2006, 09:33 AM
Can ever truly be immovable and why would you want to be?
Wouldn't want to be, but what if?
es347fan
11-23-2006, 07:33 PM
What if you could play all your music backwards - would there be secret messages there?
shortstuff
11-24-2006, 09:07 AM
Do we need the secret message to play our music backwards?
The message is to play it backwards, the question is how?
shortstuff
11-24-2006, 11:08 AM
I think the questions should be more, why would you want to?
~Sal~
11-24-2006, 06:17 PM
Perhaps the question should be "who could be bothered"?
shortstuff
11-24-2006, 10:12 PM
Well should we even want to be bothered or can we be bothered.
Why is the message always backwards? Or, is the message ok, and we are the ones who are backwards?
es347fan
11-27-2006, 09:33 AM
If everyone could access it, would it remain secret?
shortstuff
11-27-2006, 11:23 AM
Maybe not a secret, but would everyone want to access it and why?
es347fan
11-28-2006, 11:48 AM
Would not the secrets of the universe be located within?
~Sal~
11-28-2006, 09:28 PM
I doubt the secrets of the universe, more like the twisted mind of the writer wouldn't you think?
es347fan
11-28-2006, 09:57 PM
Isn't "twisted" often a preferable trait in a writer?
shortstuff
11-29-2006, 10:04 AM
For a writer what makes them a writer or are they really just someone with a story to tell?
Ride4Life
11-29-2006, 10:18 AM
Could it be they just have something to say?
