Historian David Irving was sentenced to three years in prison for denying the holocaust sixteen years ago. A denial he now says was wrong.
It seems that free speech is non-existent in Austria and certain other European countries, not only in Middle Eastern countries.
All who cherish freedom of speech, whether they agree with the Holocaust deniers or disagree with them should boycott Austria and Austrian goods. When the rights of the most repugnant among us are denied the rights of all of us are denied.
I love the Austrian countryside and have always purchased Austrian goods but I can no longer in good conscience visit the country or purchase their goods.

Some Austrians are facist and still believe they were right to walk into Poland in 1939,and a lot of old Nazis still live there, youll find the people of California dont seem to mind it,especially at election times.

As someone once said, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. This whole silly idea of making it illegal to deny the Holocaust, and it IS a silly idea, was to curb the idea of denying that the Holocaust happened. Perhaps as an expression of guilt, or as a way of not forgetting the past, or to keep the "little Eichmans" from rewriting history.
It's one of those things that started out as a good idea and wound up blowing up in their faces. The Islamists are now using such laws to try and stop negative publicity about Islam and terrorism.
I wouldn't call for boycott, rather it's a learning experience. Free speech always carries a price, censoring speech makes for a higher one.

Nazis and Muslims are all too successful at writing history the way they want it. Anyone teaching a lie for history should be liable. The purpose of the lie is to remove any sympthy for the Jews who have been slaughtered almost into non-existance.
A religion who had millions murdered because of their religion is even more hurt by the denial of that near extermination. The Muslims in general and Hamas in Particular want to exterminate the rest of the Jews. The Palestines want the world to think that the Jews are the Nazis and the Palestines are the Jews (victims).

The Nazis and the Muslims have written no history. History is written by the victors.

I wouldnt say im pro or anti jewish, unfortunatly the jewish communitys of Europe were the ones picked on by the Nazis, for various reasons. The thing that disturbs me is that a society can sink so low to do what was done, not only to the jews, but gypsies, and disabled,in fact any small and vulnerable communitys.Austria, parts of Southern Germany and areas of Eastern Europe would still be anti jewish, the good thing is,all these old dickheads are coming to the end of their lives, just let them die out.

Anyone teaching a lie for history should be liable.
And who is to decide if it is a lie or not. History is, as Nappy said, written by the victors. The Soviet history of the Revolution is far different from what we now feel happened and anyone who wrote differently than the official Soviet version in Russia was jailed or sent to a Gulag. For a long time American history vis a vis the treatment of Native Americans was different from what it is now. History changes as we distance ourselves from the events, as more evidence is uncovered, as emotions cool down.
Words, no matter how unsettling or uncomfortable should not be punishable unless they incite to riot. Denying the holocaust may upset people but it is still the right of people to do so, except in Austria, Germany and a few other countries.
What you are suggesting, Old Reb is that anyone who writes anything other than the officially accepted truth should be liable. If we follow your suggestion history becomes static and can never be revised as more information is discovered. There are many versions of history. It is the responsibility of the individual not the government to decide which are true and which are false.
