In his recent news conference, a reporter asked President Bush if he meets with lobbyists.

Mr. Bush's response was "I try not to".

Does anyone believe this?

Is there someone who forces Bush to meet with lobbyists? I think we can we assume he does it for the same reason all politicians do it...to make money for his campaign/party, and to get votes.

Why do politicians insist on dissembling, when asked questions like this?

Did anyone believe Clinton didn't inhale?

Does anyone believe that Bush avoids lobbyists?

why would anyone believe anything a politician says? how do you know a politician is lieing? his mouth is moving.
all politicians may say they are for "the people" but you can see the state of the daily working poor today that that is an outright lie.
i've seen politicians time and again start out with the best of intentions and then watch them sell "the people" to the lowest bidder.
amerika needs another revolution. the constitution is worthless, and politicians work for the rich.
work from the inside? change it from the inside? if that was the case there would have never been a constitution or a revolution.
go ahead, jail me for SAYING it.

Im sure that was a rhetorical question but I believe I have an honest answer.

This country has become so bassackwards that unless you are caught on film at the superbowl half time show with umpteen milllion people watching, there are going to be 50% of the people defending your actions whatever it may be, while the other 50% will condemn you.

Once you admit to something there's no "wiggle room", IMO.

Try not to? Either you meet with them or you don't. At least formally - I imagine you can't always know whether the guy talking to you at some fancy fund raiser is a lobbyist or not.

My guess is that he does try to avoid meeting lobbyists. They always want to talk domestic policy, and they ask questions about what is going on. It is much better to delegate that stuff to Cheney because he actually knows about domestic policy. Bush concentrates on looking presidential and doing what his advisors tell him.

It was no dumber than his response to the kid who asked him about Brokebutt Mountain. Or is it Soreass Mountin'?
He hasn't been that flustered since his Vietnam days when the mini-bar ran out of brie.
That Jayhawker disrupted another Bush pep rally. He's just begging for his phone to be tapped faster than a gay cowboy's...oops, my Hot Pocket is ready. Gotta go.
