Catch 3

I remember seeing one of those, “Tarzan” films where Johnny Weissmüller referred to the tigers as ”cannibals” because they ate humans. In addition to the fact that tigers are not found in Africa anyway, moving-goers must have got a false impression on the definition of a cannibal. ”Yeah”, I thought, ”Hollywood could do anything it wanted to do way back in the 30’s" and the notion of misinformation probably had yet to be coined.
Last night, however, I saw a film on the TV called “Locusts” with Lucy Lawless, John Heard, and Mike Farrell, from 2005. Half-way into the story an enormous swarm of locusts began supplementing its’ vegetarian diet by killing and devouring humans. The scientific ”authority” (in the film) informed his colleagues that it’s not the first time that locusts had become “cannibalistic” when staple food is scarce. Come on Hollywood! Take some community responsibility, for God’s sake!
Oh well, at least the Swedish subtitle gave some consideration to the American faux pas by translated it to “carnivorous”.
