I read the book, and it's follow up "memoir" My Friend Leonard and REALLY loved both books. (For someone who is generally into Historical biographies that is saying something.)
I was drawn more to his visceral writing style than to the exact content.
I guess what I am getting at is How do you feel about the scandal about the book being part fact and mostly wild embellishment?
I have to say that when I saw him on Oprah following her announcement of his book for her book club I got a funny feeling from him. He never really went into detail when asked specific questions about events in the book. His answers always rang sort of hollow. I just chalked it up to being a private person and having gone thru a lot. (A private person who publishes a memoir! Hmmmm....
Cheers!
