It does not look good for those 13 men trapped in the mine. Apparently the monoxide is at high levels.
Miners have the toughest job in the world and are underappreciated too.

I just heard on the news that they have found the remaining twelve miners alive. They found one body earlier. This is great news for the families of the twelve, and a tragic loss for one family.

Turns out that was a mistake - only one is alive - and in critical condition. I can't imagine what it must be like to feel that huge release upon hearing the good news, only to get crushed again.

Mistakes like that shouldn't happen, but unfortunately they do sometimes. I'm sure that the company officials will be reviewing how such a horrible miscommunication happened.

The owner of the mine is Hatfield
The lone survivor is McC(l)oy

I won't comment further on this issue yet -- I need to cool down first. Believe me, you don't want to hear my rant on how I feel (right now) about this tragedy.

It's all the fags' fault! (http://www.godhatesfags.com/fliers/jan2006/20060104_twelve-dead-miners.pdf)

Its a terrible tragedy & big news at the moment

What is also a big tragedy is 11 US soldiers died in Iraq today - a death that was not so painless as falling asleep from breathing CO2, yet these blown up & shot up kids will receive practically no news at all - just a 10 second news bite & that's it.

Good post Drew ... it's sad how this administration has ordered the media to downplay the death of our troops.

Another lightly mentioned tragedy was the F-14 that levelled the wrong house in Iraq and killed a family of 6 (or was it 8?) and the administration doesn't even have the decency to offer an apology.

Not in my name.

Of course not. Iraqis aren't people, they're just means to a political end.

That's the nature of the news, unfortunately. People want to hear about what's new and different. If coalminers died the way soldiers did we wouldn't hear much about that, either.

I agree, the media wants to sell advertising & harping on about troop deaths would make people change channel. I appreciate this is the reason & I don't think it's a Bush plot to control the media. It's still a tragedy though.
