...the "Aisle respect ya even if the REST of yer political party tends ta politick me off!"
Mine?
S.I. Hayakawa, conservative Republican, known fer his BRILLIANT analyses of linguistics and later, 'cuz he pulled the plug on Berkeley protestor's microphones...
I applaude his intelligence 'n good humor...
Uh, not much Left after that, though...
;)
SECOND ODDER PICK: Mr Charleton Heston...
Conservative actor 'n political lightnin' rod who tended ta stick ta his guns...
He went out with CLASS...
In memory of him, then...
Okay, enuff, back ta my usual Liberal doses of truth as I see it...

Loved Dr. Hayakawa. He was the anti-Chomsky.
Heston was great. If he could part the Red Sea imagine what he could have done with the tax code.
Other heros include Jean Kirkpatrick, a real man's man. No wishy washy feminist wiles for her, Joe Lieberman, a man who stands on principle not party platform, and Harry Truman, a person who was a true man to what he felt was right.

I agree with you that he was a very smart man, Odder.
But like so many (most?) Conservatives, he is a staunch supporter of one worldview while endlessly championing a political Party that represents the very antithesis of that worldview.
The book he is best known for is a warning about propaganda, and in particular the propaganda that Hitler used in persuading millions of gullible citizens to share his war-like, racist and destructive views............and now, we see virtually the same thing, the same sort of racist, warmongering propaganda being perpetrated on millions of gullible citizens by the SAME Party that Hayakawa was a banner-carrier for, the Republicans.
Hayakawa said --""Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow-citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue.""
What tragic irony.
Hayakawa's own political Party is the very thing he was concerned about the most; a Party using slogans of fear and race hatred to bring the unthinking masses under their control, a Party who cares little to nothing about peaceful accommodation and mutual respect for the other human beings on the planet, a Party whose most fervent desire is to wage war against the nations around the world so as to take control of them and their natural resources.

Can you give examples of these slogans that evoke fear and race hatred to bring the unthinking masses under their control?
