The most idiotic thing about the Tookie case was this bullshit idea of "payment".

People said he had to pay for his crimes. Stealing life from the one who stole someone elses...

As if the fact that he has called for an end to gang violence and talk thousands and thousands of kids away from pursueing such a life wasn't a redemption. I'm not even saying they needed to set him free or anything but...

Which is more convincing to todays youth.

1. Another Dead Black man killed by the system.
or
2. A person who started "thug life" and has seen how destructive it is and now preaches to thousands of children against it.

I tend to agree with your negative view of the idea of "payment"......but this guy, from what i've read, was one heartless, cold-blooded, murderous thug, and i have no problem with doing away with him, given the fact that the two choices [and i think most here would agree there were exactly two choices] were to jail him till he died or execute him.

Naturally, after he's caught he's going to begin to do the things that would be most likely to change society's view of him.....if he'd never been caught, he'd in all likelyhood be out there killing and robbing at this very minute.

You might be right Freethinker but I still don't think he should have been executed. I believe in people's capacity for redemption and execution is a strong argument against that.
