I am still looking for this answer, but haven't been able to find the answer to my question.

There is a street in Bethesda, Maryland which got's it name Melrose Ave in 1894. The street was named that for a long time until December of 1952 when the street name was changed to Cordell ave. What I am trying to find out is why was the street name changed to Cordell Ave and where did they get the name from. Could it be named after someone ? Any help you could give me I would greatly appreciate it. :)

P.S. I have already tired the montgomery County history society but they didn't know the answer.
