I know it's ASSANINE to even suggest something positive to come out of the current administration... but Bush's tax cuts, which took effect in may, have had the following effects.
1. a big growth in the economy
graph:
http://polipundit.com/index.php?p=11438
2. Annual federal revenues have increased by hundreds of billions of dollars, hence it reduces the federal budget deficit
3. Unemployment down 5%
Now don't go accusing me of being some Bush lover who supports bush at every turn... but obviously he's done something right... i know FT, 500 and others have too much pride to admit it, but he has.

I think you are the only cat crazy enough here to claim that President Bush has actually decreased the federal deficit.
Oh wait, you are also claiming that unemployment is down too! And that the economy has grown, despite a humongous terrorist attack and New Orleans getting wiped out!
You might be just as nuts as Ann Coulter! "I got hit in the head with drywall, and now you want to destroy democracy!"

Oh I get it now, you are talking about the effects from a single tax cut package. Kinda lets the steam out of my insanity plea, but still, its hard to defend that overall, Bush has done well for the economy. How do you claim that a tax cut, increases federal revenues, especially by hundreds of billions of dollars?

"Pride" has zero to do with it in regards to how I view his accomplishments. Or, more to the point, his utter lack of accomplishments.
The two examples you provided are not only false, but preposterously false.
The budget deficit has soared since he became president.
* In 2001, President Bush and the Republican Congress resumed raiding the Social Security Trust Fund. Since 2002, the Bush Administration has spent every penny of the Social Security surplus and their new budget does the same for the next 10 years, spending a total of $2.5 trillion from the Social Security Trust Fund surplus over 2006-2015. (CBO)
* In 2002, the unified federal budget returned to a deficit of $158 billion.
* The unified deficit increased again in 2003 to $378 billion, the highest level ever.
* In 2004, the unified deficit reached another record high of $412 billion.
* When President Bush first took office, he estimated that the FY2005 unified budget surplus would be $273 billion, including an on-budget surplus of $36 billion based on the policies then in place. (President Bush's Budget for FY2002, A Blueprint for New Beginnings, 2/28/01)
* The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) now projects the on-budget deficit in 2005 will be $508 billion and the unified budget deficit will be $333 billion--the third largest unified budget deficit in American history. (OMB, 2005 Mid-Session Review, 7/13/05)
* President Bush is the first President in American history to oversee three consecutive years of RECORD unified deficits: $378 billion in 2003, $412 billion in 2004, and $333 billion (projected) in 2005.
Keep in mind tat most of these figures come from the government's own Office of Managment and Budget (OMB)
And the NET number of unemployed people since Bush took office is up. WAY up.
Since George Bush took office, the economy has lost 1.8 million private sector jobs. Hispanic unemployment has increased by 16 percent under Bush. The rate of unemployment of African Americans is twice the rate of whites.
-- 7 Million Jobs Short Of President Bush's Prediction. -----After 9/11, the tech bubble, and the recession, the Bush Administration predicted nearly 6 million new jobs would be created between January 2001 and May 2004. Instead, we lost more than 1 million jobs - seven million jobs short. (Bureau of Labor Statistics; Economic Report of the President, 2002)
-- Jobs Are Shifting To Lower-Paying Industries Paying $9,160 Less.------- On average, jobs in growing industries pay $9,160 less - or 21 percent less - than jobs in contracting industries. (Economic Policy Institute, "Jobs Shift From Higher Paying to Lower Paying Industries," January 21, 2004). And the incomes of African American Households Have Fallen $1,844. (Census Bureau)
By ALL means, if you can think of one thing the smirking idiot from Crawford has done that is a plus for this country, i'd be anxious to examine it.

I know you mean well Decka but your age is showing ... by that I mean ... you simply haven't been around long enough to judge a good economy from a bad economy. I'm not holding that against you, just pointing it out.
To suggest the bush economy is anything other than a complete disaster is beyond laughable, beyond comical, beyond lucicrous, beyond ridiculous.
It's absurdity is only surpassed by the laughter itself, the scorn notwithstanding.
OTOH -- I do thank you for the comical thread. It's amusing and laughable in spite of it obvious incongruity, exaggerations and eccentricity.
Hang in there dude -- you'll get older, you'll get wiser and someday you may even understand that if you want to live like a republican, you have to vote like a democrat.

They've built bigger soup kitchens -- that's why you don't see the lines.

If anything was done for the sake of humanity, such as soup kitchens, you can probably thank President Clinton. Surely, this president wouldn't have the time for such events when there are Iraquis to kill, oil to steal and treasuries to be robbed in the name of all things Halliburton and KBR.

I don't know where you're living, 500, but "poor" people in Chicago are usually 150Lbs overweight. All things considered, I don't think they have a problem finding food, and yes, I read your link. I mean, let's be realistic here...we're talking about a small percentage of the population. Did you ever stop to think that maybe these people should be starving; that maybe having too many kids when combined with a low wage job, and a lack of education when they don't speak English was a fucking stupid move? C'mon, let's be honest here: what did they expect??? If they lack drive, then they've got no place living in America anyway. In short, if these people are looking for a handout, then I say let 'em rot, but that’s just me...

Exactly the way I feel about the group in America that is the greediest goddamned parasite that inflicts the country, and is the biggest drain on our resources; the military/Industrial complex.
Let 'em rot, indeed. Good idea.
