Check out Napster's UK campaign: www.getthewholething.com, do you think it'll make it on tv here? It's pretty hot stuff, a la Paris Hilton's burger commercial.

woah, let's take a closer look at that. I am American, not Christian, not puritanical, yet I find that commercial exploitive. Not towards women - towards men. The commercial puts the viewer into the shoes of a peepshow goer, by watching that commercial you become the sort of person who would pay money to sit in a small cement and plywood box covered in man-juice with the only window being tiny and made out of scratched plexiglass.

That's a pretty desperate place to put someone. I think that there isn't enough nudity in this commercial to keep it from TV, but the setting of the peepshow will keep it off TV. That said, I did sign up for a 7-day trial at Napster. I didn't realize how cheap the new Napster is.

ok so you looked way way to much into that advert. Its a pretty girl getting undressed and dancing... then stopping cause its a 30 second preview.

I thought it was amusing and sexy

No, it's not, it's a peepshow. It's not just a pretty girl undressing. The reason that she stops is that our money ran out, and the little window is closing. There is a story that is clearly told with the commercial (note the other booths in the background, with their sketchy little pairs of eyes). I didn't read too much into it, you didn't read enough into it. The stories that are told to us through our eyes affect how we think about the world. Especially when they are stories that involve reproduction.

Napsterbater, where did you get your handle? That's nuts. Actually, I totally signed up for Napster. I thought I was just gonna do the trial, but it turned out to be a good deal. It's the first time I've done something "in spite of" a commercial.

It is pretty inexpensive-I use it as a safe guard against buying bad cds-there's nothing worse than that- I like being able to listen to the whole album before buying--I'm not a big fan of snippets. I saw that napster has it's own MP3 play coming out too.

Thanks! Been using it since way back when, after Napster died, and everybody was using Kazaa. Just hacked it up out of my crazy head.

I wouldn't use Napster, Kazaa, or anything, now that I have BitTorrent! If I decide not to use Bittorrent anymore, my music still works!

When I read your post I said to myself-"that's why things never change"-- I didn't find the commercial offensive, graphic yes but I wasn't offended by it--you seem to be though, yet you purchased a service from a company that just offended you. You felt like you were being put in the position of a peepshow goer- and you were disgusted by it --yet, if the price is right it's okay... Obviously Napster thinks of it's consumers one way-and that is demonstrated in their commercial--do you think that that commercial shows respect for you as a consumer--to some yes and to others no -that is a personal decision -I guess my question is -would you buy a pair of socks(for example) from a man who just called you a pervert? Hopefully the answer is no--then why would you buy a service from a company that has called you a pervert? If you dont like something-don't spend your money there-they aren't the only game in town- you've purchased a service in spite of the company offending you. We all must be more mindful of our decisions only then will product standards rise.
I too purchased the service but I didn't have the same emotions that you had-nor did I view the commercial the same way. Napster is a peepshow-- as long as you pay you can use their service but when the money runs out-- that's it.

Well done commercial, I think. Hell, I'm pretty desensitized to that kind of thing, and I got very...ah, into that commercial. That advertising company knows what they're doing.

Though I suppose it wouldn't be a big hit with women. Oh well.

I saw that they added to the "story" (Ha!) of the commericial-- putting up an "audition" tape and otheer stuff http://www.napstergirl.tv/ . So I guess the company isn't afraid to stir up some controversy (no such thing as bad publicity I guess).

Hey, Loki, my friend is viewing this with me and wants to know what Thor your avatar is from? He wonders if the artist is Dellotto?
