I loved "Gilligan's Island " and still do. It's so dumb, it's hilarious. Recently we bought the 3 DVD set of all the episodes.

Also I was very fond of "Dick Van Dyke" and Andy and Barney Fife.
And then there's the classic "Twilight Zone"--one of the all-time great and thought-provoking series with the twist endings...Rod Serling was a genius, and as a kid I had a major crush on him.:)

Thundercats i think was the main one... ahh the 80's cartoons, it was the era of making cartoons to entertain not to sell, which i think all childrens cartoons are made for now adays.

When I was a kid we watched some pretty violent cartoons. I can still remembe farmer Gray blowing up all those thousands of mice.

I used to love Howdy Doody, Pinhead and Foodinie, Winky Dink, Super Circus with the beautiful Mary Heartline and Captain Video.

I watched those programs on an eight inch, black and white t.v.

I used to make jokes about it...Liono would go into the bathroom with an edition of "Playkitten" in his hand. Later, Snarf overhears from down the hallway..."thunder....*sound of page turning*...Thunder....*page turn*...THUNDERCATS HOOO!!"
Snarf walks closer and slips on a strange white ooze spilling out from under the door.

Every show mentioned in this thread is played at one time or another nowadays somewhere.

Show me where a single one of these shows is played anywhere on t.v., Evakian. I would love to see Mary Heartline again, or even Princess Summerfallwinterspring.

Did you see Thundercats was being released on DVD. I saw it on the strawberries store flyer this week for 55 bucks, not bad considering I think it had over 40 episodes on it. Not sure exactly though how many

Many of the older shows can be found on TV Land, also appearing on Nick At Nite are the not-so-old series. Other channels occasionally play their older episodes of shows long past such as the Hallmark Channel. And many of which can be found in DVD compilations. But for your shows in particular, that would be harder, as they are less well known and so won't get much if any airtime. I suggest investigating their whereabouts on-line, if worse comes to worse you could always download them if they are available.

Very few tapes of those shows even exist. There are a few of Howdy Doody but even those are rare. The shows were live and often not taped and even when taped they were taped on a material that did not hold up over time and the tapes deteriorated to such a degree as to be unviewable.

As for their being less well known..............they were among the most popular children's shows in their day, at least in the New York area. They were right up there with Ding Dong School and Bozo the Clown.

This calls for protest, get Mother Sheehan to join your cause in bringing back reruns of these old shows...surely the networks have them in archives!

Aside from Howdy Doody, I'm sure if you walked around the streets today you'd get dumbfounded looks if you asked people had they seen those other series.
