View Full Version : A pretty boring baseball season over.

Was it just me, or was this baseball season just dragging through the mud for much of the year?
Sure, the world series was exciting - especially for a sweep - but the year just never really had a spark which I thought was needed.
oh, and someone needs to find the thread we did at the first of the season where we predicted cy young, rookie, and mvp - and lets see who got the closest.

I think it's just you, jere. I found the season exciting, esp how the Indians almost caught the Sox. I was petrified there for a while.
Speaking of dragging thru the mud, Rafael Palmiero comes to mind....

I thought it was a great season. Im sure the way things went, it will attract more fans next year since "The Evil Empire" didnt win again. Now we will have all offseason to hold our breaths wondering what reaction George "the Emporer" Steinbrenner will have.
Not being a White Sox fan, I wasnt happy that the series ended in another sweep. The series had exciting games, I just hated to see it become so one-sided.
How many days 'til pitchers and catcher report? :D

Yes, i was a little surprised myself about the sweep. i thought the Astros were better than that--i was looking forward to some real hard fought games , like game 3--but to tell you the truth i think the 'stros kinda threw in the towel after game 2--they had the look of defeat on them.
thank god i don't have to listen to that dumb buzzing sound anymore tho, that they had at their ballpark.

It wasn't too hot for me, as my teams didn't really do so well. It was nice to see a bit of fire from the Athletics, but it didn't translate to much.
Amazing by the Sox, though, after all those years to finally win again.

Have they even announced the MVP and Cy Young award winners yet?

Sorry, Stros. You're out of juice.
Maybe this is what you deserve after naming your park in honor of the biggest bunch of corporate buttholes in recent history.
Call it the Enron curse.

Nope.
I'm pretty sure they'll give the AL honors to Bartolo Colon, but the national league could be close between Willis and Carpenter -- Willis actually ended the season with better numbers with Carpenter's lousy finish, but Chris was definitely the most dominant starter in the NL for most of the season. I don't think Clemens will get honors just because of his win total (although, everything else about his season points to the award).
Well, since Barry Bonds was out for most of the season, he can't win the MVP again, so I'm guessing Derek Lee or Pulois, although I think Andruw Jones made the biggest impact on his team winning the division and staying together. For the AL, hmm, dunno about that one, Ortiz, who am I forgetting?

And Colon does indeed get the Cy Young. Now, I don't mean to knock the man's accomplishments, and I realize there are plenty of people who feel wins are somehow the trumping stat for pitchers, but this was a bad call.
He had the best run support of anyone in consideration for the award. Admittedly, in Rivera's case the value of run support is a strange thing. Then again, that gets into the whole "should closers win Cys?" debate. What really does it is that he didn't even lead his team in ERA or strikeouts. He wasn't the best pitcher on his team, he was just a good pitcher who had the fortune of pitching on good days for the offense behind him.
Either Rivera or Johan Santana would have been far more deserving of the award based on their performances this year.
