Bill Gates recently appeared at a meeting of the ‘National Conference of State Legislators’ which was held in Seattle, Washington. Seattle is very close to Redmond, Washington, where Microsoft’s headquarters is located.

He talked all about efficiency and how Microsoft products can streamline how government does business.

Wasn’t that nice of him?

You’d think Microsoft had never been in federal court under Anti-Trust charges and for forcing a monopoly on the Information Technology industry.

People forget, and anyway, it seems that Microsoft is just the software version of IBM.

Are they really able to provide efficiency and an ability to streamline how government does business?

I certainly don’t think so.

I personally feel that we would all be better off if Bill Gates had Microsoft concentrate on improving efficiency and streamlining how Microsoft does business.

Let’s take a look at just one small example of how Microsoft brings America efficiency and helps to streamline our work.

Microsoft Office 2003 has superseded Microsoft Office XP.

Microsoft 2000 uses Microsoft Office XP.

Windows XP has superseded Windows 2000.

Windows XP uses Microsoft Office 2003.

Does this look like a plan?

It looks like a bungled mess to me.

A product of an oversized and poorly run company who is so desperate for income that they would pander to an organization like the ‘National Conference of State Legislators’.

American industries have been destroyed by foreign competition after major unscrupulous companies sold out.

Microsoft is next at bat. They already export manufacturing and jobs.

Unless there was a court order telling them to cease doing business, I don't see the relevancy.

That hasn't really been the case since about 1987.

I don't think so either, but mostly because there isn't a government around that can be streamlined.

I really think you should let Microsoft know your plan - clearly they're searching for a way out of the poor performance their company has exhibited over the last 25 years or so.

A mess it may be, but it's an extremely profitable one.

Just about any company that has goods to sell to the government was at that conference (my boss was a speaker at the conference, so I'm familiar with it). Trying to promote your products is generally seen as a positive thing.

So you're saying that American companies went under on purpose?

Of course they've also created thousands of jobs that didn't even exist 30 years ago.
