Are there some lyrics you've always been misunderstanding until you could read them ? It is often funny to see what one can understand in a song instead of what was really written.
I have many example but in french… The only in english is David Bowie's "Panic In Detroit". I heard "Callicum Nitroy" instead of Panic in Detroit, but my english was quite poor at this time…

Someone made a book (and spinoff page-a-day calendar) about that called "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy" (the lyrics are to Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and are "'scuse me while I kiss the sky"). It's a collection of misheard lyrics. Some are pretty funny.

When I was very young I thought the lyrics of "My country 'tis of thee, sweet landy of liberty, of thee I sing" were "My country dystrophy, sweet land of liberty, of thee Hi-C"....we sang it every day in grade school...surely my teacher must have noticed that alot of us didnt understand the words! LOL I found later that there were all kinds of song lyrics I was singing wrong....how embarrassing!

For the longest time, I thought CCR's "Bad Moon on the Rise" was chorusing "there's a Bathroom on the Right." Unfortunately, I failed to correct myself on that one:(

I had a friend who thought Neil Diamonds' song "Forever in Blue Jeans" was " A Reverend In Blue Jeans"
