I'm surprised that no one has posted this, but there were Earthquakes in East Asia that reports about 18,000 deaths. There isn't much news coverage on it, some of the big names, CNN for instance, decided to "waste" some time on it. Here is an article from yahoo news.

Here is a link to the leading english language newspaper in Pakistan. It has a great deal of information on the earthquake from a local perspective.

Well, when we say "world" news, we don't really mean world in the strictest sense......we mean US, but the media and others feel obligated to give the illusion that we care about other places too. I mean outside of Paris Hilton roasting a little pole, what do we really care about as a nation? Oh, that's right.......Survivor, Nick and Jessica, Hip hop culture, and Good morning America.

You're forgetting beer, football, american idol, christian fascism, and of course...Sweatin' to the Oldies.

Some of us would just as soon forget that American troops are fighting and dying within a few miles of there. It's easy not to think about that.

amerikans are spoiled brats

they would rather spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle every year, than walk, or use mass transit. even when it stops nearby.

let's say you are lucky to have a vehicle that is paid for. so, you do not have to pay for full coverage insurance or a bank payment. BUT you can, let's say, spend $3600-$4800 a year on gasoline , IF you have a vehicle that gets 25 mpg and you live 13 miles from work or school. this in mind if you end up driving 40,000 miles a year. and this is with in mind where gas now hovers around $3 a gallon. this does NOT include insurance, oil changes, new tires every year, and the repairs that pop up about once every 3 months or so that can range from $50- over $600. depending.
the decision is made to get a better job. where i live, that means driving even further. married? BOTH of you work, but that means you will eventually have 2 automobiles.which means you have to go into debt eventually.

sound stupid? it is.
