To revisit this for those not in the know, the shortlived TV show Firefly got screwed over by Fox a few years ago and enough fans bought the DVDs and built a movement up to get a movie made.
And here we sit now with that movie made.
So...see it, and then post your thoughts :D
What did you think?

Absolutely the best science fiction movie I have ever seen. Kicks Star War's ass... a number of times over. Better than the Matrix or Alien. If you have not seen it... go see it, now. Out of the entire movie, there were only two things I didn't like. Firstly, character changes. They were a bit awkward. Secondly... you'll have to see the movie to get the secondly. It's the part that made me sad and I completely lost what happened a number of minutes afterward... too much shock.
Joss Whedon is damn good in television, I'd call him the best ever, and now on the big screen he shows that this lowly TV writer and producer can best the best of hollywood. He's quite young still, too. I have a feeling that the best movies of our generation are eventually going to come out of him.
Oh, and on IMDb, Serenity skyrocketed to #149 of the top 250 movies... on it's first day. The movie's average rating was better than some of the best and and oldest movies up there, but was too fresh to actually place at that spot. However, now it's at 114 and I think(and hope) that it'll keep climbing.

Jeez, someone here has fanboy syndrome that is interfering with his sense of reason. ;)
As for "the secondly", i have never, ever heard an entire theater gasp in pain simultaneously like that, if you are talking about what i think you are talking about.

Sheesh, you liked Buffy???
But yes, if he gets the money for another movie to make a sequel, then i would be jumping for joy, and even more so if they gave him more to do another one of his ideas put on screen.

Whoa, that's incredible. Hard to get to, that's for sure ;)
This movie is a leaf on the wind, watch it soar.

Never! There were a whole of 30 people in the movie theatre at 7:25 on opening day, but every single one of them was as deeply involved as I. And they were not Browncoats either, they didn't get half of the jokes until about half-way in, which is by the time you have enough of an understanding for the characters to actually understand.

They were almost in tears it seemed. First everybody in the theatre was roaring in laughter and relief, and then the entire crowd went silent.
Sheesh, you liked Buffy???
It was funny, new, and as kid entering puberty I thought Willow was hot as hell. The shows started to get old until an actual plot started, but the dialogue and character interaction is still some of the best I've ever seen. Angel was just awesome.

I don't see how he can make a sequel now... especially since it will be missing far too much.

Except now I'm looking at box office revenue, and every day since it's release it's been making less and less money. I certainly hope there's a revival this weekend, I know I'll be seeing it again.

I read that he already had a script handy if the studio approached him.

Same.
But i must say that "Hard to get to, that's for sure..." was my favorite line of that movie. :D

Unless he shows himself to be the only writer who can turn a missing element into something other then either a weep fest or just downright lacking, then it will probably be not very good of a movie.
I think he needs to come up with another idea and make a new kind of movie.

You wanna run this ship?
-yes.
Well...you, ya can't...
Great delivery.
As for this weekend, i am expecting this to be like the Sixth Sense and have a surge of profit later in its run. this weekend will most likely go between 10-15 million, maybe a little higher.

Well, you complimented him so much earlier, i am sure he can manage his own story well if he is as good as you've boasted :D

Sounds about right. Word of mouth drives the film. I haven't seen a single television advertisment except on SciFi and nobody watches that channel anymore. Word of mouth spread outrageously fast among Browncoats from the prescreenings and I think that it'll just continue to spread, as it is a damn good movie.
Oh, and one other thing that I found to be a highlight of the movie. The music. It was so fitting...

He's one of the best that I've ever heard of, but he's still not a God... or at least I don't think he is... well, he's never had something challenging enough that could show whether he is or isn't...

Upon seeing the original trailer, I said to myself it looked like a decent flick.
Would I need to know a thing about Firefly to understand it?

You wouldn't have had to have seen the show, but you would need a basic understanding of the premise and plot.
ABOUT THE FILM
Joss Whedon- the Oscar(r)- and Emmy-nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel-now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity.
The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family - squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal.
When Mal takes on two new passengers-a young doctor and his unstable, telepathic sister-he gets much more than he bargained for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger to them may be on board Serenity herself.
There is a little bit of information from the official website since i am too lazy to type anything up myself and Blib is not around. :D
It has a quick exposition so be sure to be attentive or you may get left behind. There is alot of dry humor and wit from the characters in this movie, some dramatic sequences, and a decent amount of action.
Overall, this has it all. :)

Not really, within the first half an hour you'll have figured it out. It makes the movie better(a shit load better) if you've seen the series first, but it's still a downright awesome movie without seeing a single episode.

I think it helps to have seen it else the whole Mal and Anara thing is hard to understand.
I just saw it and loved it, and yeh the bit everyone is talking about shocked me quite a bit as well... your just waiting expecting it to be like a River pre vision which she saves him from... but the reality dawns pretty quickly.
Overall though awesome and i really hope we either get a new movie or a full season for this.

Okay, the following contains spoilers, so don't read it if you haven't watched the movie yet and still plan to. It freaked me out when that certain something happened so I felt like I had to do the American thing about it, and that is make a complete ass out of myself. Here goes.
---Spoiler Alert---
So Joss Whedon was ironing out his script for his newest, most baddest-ass movie to ever be made yet, when he suddenly realized something very important. So he calls all the main actors into the board room and says, "Alright, this movie's gonna flop because the advertisers are eating my lunch. I can't afford to hire all of you on for full parts in the next few movies. So, who wants to die?"
Shepard raises his hand and says, "Dude, people are acting like I'm the next Morgan Freeman, I gotta get out while I still have a future to salvage." Joss says, "Alright that's one." Malcolm starts to raise his hand. Joss leaps on him. "Shut the fuck up, Renyolds! You can't die!" Everybody looks at Jayne. "Don't look at me, everybody knows I can't act! I'll be out of work for months! You can't do that to a man!" Joss says, "Well, we can kill off the hacker, no harm, no foul. If he survived, he'd be way too cool not to include in the next movie. Anybody else thinking 'bout suicide?" Nobody raises their hands. Just then, a cricket chirped.
"Alright, well, I've got a plan." He brings out a bundle of straws. "Everybody pick one, except you, asshole," he said, pointing at the captain. They go around the room. Wash instantly yells, "Fuck!" as soon as he saw his puny little straw.
Zoe cracks up. "Aww, poor little bitch boy can't live his dream out?" she coos. "Fuck!", says Wash again. Suddenly he perks up. "We'll get one last good romp in the hay before I go, right?" Joss says, "Nope, got the sex scene pegged for Simon and Kaylee. You had the whole damn series, remember?" Wash looks sullen. Kaylee and Simon snicker, and Simon pumps his fist in the air when he thinks no one's looking and mouths, "Yes!" Kaylee sees this and walks to Wash and puts a hand on his shoulder. "Cheer up, Wash, if you're really that hard up, I don't mind..." Choking noises are heard from the back of the room. Everybody laughs.
