How about a little advice? My husband and I are planning a camping trip through Europe next May for 30 to 40 days. I'm also shopping for a new laptop computer. I'd like to take my laptop along on the Europe trip with the intention of accessing the Internet for research on our next destination. What I don't know is:

How likely is it to get a wireless connection at typical European campings?

What do I need to be certain to include in the purchase of my new laptop?

Is wireless the wrong terminology or the wrong way to go (considering we'll be camping, not stopping at cyber cafes or staying in hotels)?

If I can access wireless in Europe on a regular basis, who would you recommend for a provider since my current provider is not an option?

Do you have any recommendations on furthering my education into the next generation? (keeping in mind that I just got DSL 5 months ago)

Thanks

The middle of forests unfortunatly dont come with broadband access yet, Yogi has been complaining about it for ages and nothings been done ;)

Seriously though, you need a laptop with either infrared/bluetooth or firewire in which you can connect a celluar phone which doubles as a modem. You would then use your phone to dial up and connect to the net. This of course depends on how totally remote you go as the mobile phone still requires you be within a distance of one of the telecom towers.

The last option is a direct satalite link using a small portable satalite reciever... I have no idea how much something like that costs and its only one way meaning you could recieve data but no transmit anything back, it will be pretty quick though.

Cheers

My limited understanding is that European campings are not necessarily remote, like American campgrounds. I was wondering if this afforded me the luxury of being closer to an Internet signal. Does this change your answer at all?

Thanks for the help and the additional computer jargon to research. Quite thankful.
