Iv'e got a question for you all to ponder over. It is going to seem sort of petty, but I have to ask it any way. Here is the situation.
My daughter is on the volleyball team and at one of her schools "open gym" nights and another girl from her team got ahold of the gym teachers master key to the lockers and got into them and vandalized a bunch of the girls clothes. She had written alot of curse words all over their lockers and clothes. She and her partner were caught and suspended for 3 days from school. She was also put on the bench for one game.
My question is...shouldn't she have been kicked off the team since the clothing and other articles she vandalized were from the members of her own team?
Alot of the other parents are also questioning why she is still on the team and allowed to play.
By doing this she is showing a lack of respect for her fellow team mates and the school.
If you don't mind giving me a little insight on this..I would appreciate it. Oh...and I have another gripe about the volleyball coach too...but I'll get to it a bit later. Thanks.

It is ridiculous how people take it so seriously
Sports are just little kids games to keep them out of the house to keep mum from beating herself crazy, and from pop to keep him from attacking them ;)
Billion dollar industries are derived from certain sports, people spend their time at "sports bars" spending time to talk about all sorts of stats for the players and teams, making predictions, fantasy teams, making bets, going crazy if your team wins/loses.
I feel this outrageous behavior and obsession with sports in children is from parental pressure. The parents are nuts about it, and so pressure their kids to do good, as well as not setting proper behavioral boundaries (spoiling them for their abilities) and so the kids act out like this girl.
Plus college sports, what the heck is up with that?!?!?!
Spending millions on teams, facilities, faculty, equipment, etc to have sports teams that serve asa training ground for professional sports. WHY!?!? College is for academic education and research; it should stay that way.
Sports are silly little meaningless games that provide entertainment to some, but c'mon people, be realistic. They take it far too seriously.

I say boot her off the team. It's not like sports is a critical part of her education.

Personally I think the punishment should fit the crime. I say give her the choice of being off the team, or of wearing clothes vandalized by her teammates for the rest of the season.

Well the girl is 12, and she hangs out with a "bad" crowd.
My daughter plays sports because she really enjoys them and she just happens to be very good at them. Me and her have been practicing her volleyball skills since she was 5 years old and she absolutely loves it. I would never push her to play a sport she didn't want to. As a matter of fact...I really don't want her to fill her schedule up with just sports...I would rather her spend her time on her school work..but she is doing very well in school so as long as she does well in school I will let her play sports.
The girl that did the vandalizing has always been a pretty wild little girl from what the other moms have told me. Her own brother was laughing about the whole situation the other day right in front of the other girls and the parents. It seems that her whole family really doesn't care that she did this.
I am just really stumped why the school didn't dish out a harsher punishment to her, because in my opinion...suspension to a kid is like a 3 day break from school. That is all she got. I wish our school had a program for the kids in suspension. One where they do go to school, but in a seperate room from the other kids and they are given their homework plus other extra work to do, as well as not allowing them on the sport teams and restricting them from going to after school functions. Something that will show them they will be punished for violating the school rules.

Probably because when the schools try to lay down the law they just end up getting sued.

Well we had another game tonight and guess who got to play?
Thats right...the naughty little girl. I did notice that alot of the girls on the team didn't look like they were too happy to see her on the court. She does have a vicious serve though, but that still doesn't matter. Anyway...it doesn't look like they are going to do anything about it now so I might as well just quit complaining about it now. Thanks for the insight though everyone. It was much appreciated.
