Losing your hard drive to corruption.
Yes, that's correct. 100 gigs of information... gone. So, ladies and gentlemen, defragment your hard drives, often. Backup things that you absoultely have to have. Do not use FAT32 formatting. Do not attempt to copy 10 gigs of data overnight from one partition to another.

I am currently highly depressed, more depressed than I have ever been before... I cried... damn, I'm pathetic.

So, just a reminder to you all, DEFRAGMENT OFTEN. Data can be retrieved from a defragmented hard drive, files are all together. However, it is nigh on impossible to rescue information from a fragmented drive.
If I do manage to save anything, I'll be sure to declare myself an "expert" in data recovery(I certainly would have to be by then...) and will inform you all of what you could possibly do to save your life, er I mean data...

Yeah, but they were all completed games by the time I decided that I was spending far too much time playing it and had to put the game down.

That is what bothers me the most. That and the game CDs and movies I had. It seems as though I can get a number of them back(all of the music seems to work so far) but I don't want to fork over $80 so I can do it in two days. It's a good program and it has a work around, it just takes forever. I'm trying to see if a friend of mine could get me the music in his collection that he has on CDs so I don't have to meticulously fake open every single file.
Oh, the program that actually works, by the way, is Nucleus Kernel recovery thing (http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/Buy-Data-Recovery-Software.html).
Nice program it peiced together much of my fragmented drive.

Oh lord. Civ 4. I may need to quit my job just to support the time I'm going to require when that game comes out...

Sorry to hear that. I lost 20gb once, but not because of corruption. My friend felt the solution to a virus was to reformat with out asking me. Luckily that was an older computer and didn't have anything too important on it.

Good luck trying to recover it.

WTF? He reformatted your drive without asking you? Did he ever consider that you could possibly, I don't know...want the stuff on your hard drive. Geez. Did he even try an AV program?

Also, here is the beauty of GNU/Linux. Never will you have to format the drive because of some stupid virus in Linux, unless you're an idiot and run as root all the time. Windows is severely lacking in rights management...
