For those of you unaware of what this is:

No, it's not the seventh retread in a movie series you've never heard of. It is the sequel to Final Fantasy VII for the Playstation One, although this sequel is put into movie form and completely CGI. That game was the most well-reviewed and best-selling (about 8-9 million copies!) of the series and was what made the Playstation sell.

I recently got the opportunity to view this movie sequel, and it is-

Breathtaking.

You get the chance to rejoin your old pals from the game and start back up 2 years later. It follows Cloud Strife around on this new adventure and is quite an entertaining piece.

Helmed by SquareEnix, the same people who made the game, such as the composer Uematsu (which made great music for this movie as well), took part in its creation.

It is mainly an action movie, made for the fans who wanted to see more of their favorite RPG. It is frenetic and graceful, with stunning visuals and incredible action. Although it was short, but CG films are usually not long, and this movie didn't expend that short amount of alloted time on plot, you just kind of follow along.

If you played the game, you need to see this film. If you did not play the game, you need to run out and buy it from a bargain bin for the PS2 or PC. If you don't feel like spending 20 hours on old software, read a plot synopsis and learn about the characters, places and stories briefly to get an idea of what happened in the first game, then read a little about what the sequel contains as it is fast-paced so you may got lost in the dialogue. Either way, i recommend this film.

Two thumbs up! :corn:

Wasn't FF7 like the best FF of all? I've only played X. What can I say? Tidus and Yuna are hot.

By many miles (aside from 8, which comes close) FF7 is the best. Ten is bleh, alright.

Anyway, go see this movie, its only on DVD and UMD (if you have a PSP) and only the japanese version has been released thus far, but it was still great. Enjoy!

Well I watched the first 15 minutes, however its in japanese with no subtitles so I need to work on my japanese before tackiling it ;) It was such a blast from the past though seeing those characters again and i really hope they do the PS3 version of FF7 as rumourmed. Im trying to find a subtittled version but if not ill watch the one i have fully.

Well, in Japan there were massive riots when Square tried to end FF at number 10, so they kept going with the series. As far as a remake is concerned, they are far too busy and said they won't be working on it in the near future for now, busy with so many other next-gen titles. The team is overloaded and can't handle it, but hopefully the fanboys will petition enough for them to get it.

I like this movie and give it a perfect score, although the characters and plot do not develop aside from pretty much Cloud. But this movie is not 20 hours+ like the game, it does not have time for that, instead it headed out and filled its time with lots of furious action to appease the fans and bring back the older characters, a brilliant angle to take it from. All in all, it is a great wrap-up to one of the greatest games ever, and probably will lead the way for it to be continued on the PS3. Nostalgia is bliss.

Can you speak Japanese?

Not fluently yet, i am not good at speaking or writing it, but my comprehension is okay, so i can get, to an extent, what they are saying.
But my version of AC has subtitles anyway :D, but its interesting to not watch them, i'd rather attempt to get some practice in translating done and enjoy the beauty of the movie then read the subtitles ;)

My neighbor is from Kobe, so i pick it up a little from him whenever we go hang out somewhere. :)
Its pretty basic stuff so far, day names, colors, greetings, etc.
I need to get some books on it soon, as i will begin to take it more seriously in the coming weeks.
Hopefully i will be able to do some dialogues and such by the end of next month, i need to work on it because there is a good chance i'll be heading over to Tokyo next summer.

What book(s) do you recommend for japanese self-tutelage? :)

Japanese for busy people is pretty much the book of choice (its got a green cover). Then you need to get some hiragana and katakana flash cards and some japanese childrens writing books (the kind you used to use when you were learning to write english letters etc) and lastly some basic childrens reading books.

I brought a bunch of fashion magazines in japanese to practice on but the childrens books are vastly better since they dont use kanji.

Finished watching it by the way, Loved the action scenes notibly the fight against Bahamut, I understood as much as a I could without knowing what they were saying.

Facial expressions and the like help such as Reno and Rude's comedy moments, meaning that I can have a chuckle now and then.

Tifa and Loz's battle in the broken church was awesome as well :)

Pretty much all those action scenes were jaw dropping and so fast.

Plus i liked how they brought in the old gang one by one in the fight against bahamut.
Plus all of Cloud's different swords was a nice touch (his motorcycle made me laugh when he would open it to reveal all his arsenal).

The church fight was pretty cool, but i did not like the music at that sequence.

Thanks for the advice by the way :)

You got to admit though that when Tifa slammed Loz into the ground, she is tending to the girl and Loz's phone goes off using the ringtone of the final fantasy "defeat an enemy" music that was a touch of brilliance :)

I laughed quite hard at that cell phone ring. Plus, Tifa's look seemed different from what i remember, alot more docile and kind, plus her sexuality seemed turned down in this movie (i was shocked that a japanese movie did not involve sex of some sort hehehe kidding :D)
