Both my desktop and laptop are running XP. I set up a network and both were running fine, could access the internet and share folders and printer. My son took the laptop to school and he assures me made no changes to the configuration; however, although the laptop will pick up the network and send files to the printer it will not connect to the internet. Can anyone give me some suggestions to what I need to check?

You have the same setup as me so i need to know some details

Is your connection to the net something like this

MODEM ---USB----> PC ---ETHERNET----> Laptop

If so, Restart your PC and see if that fixes it.

If not, Then go into Network connections, open properties on your internet connection and make sure that your allowing it to be shared to others.

I realise it makes no sense as to why any of this should have changed but your dealing with Windows so yeh....

Thanks for your message but i have fixed my problem. I was advised to check the LAN properties for Internet Explorer and discovered that proxy server had been set. Once restored it works perfectly!
