The word is that Favre postponed his press conference indefinitely. Ted Thompson said that he spoke with the players this morning, and that the firing of Sherman surprised them. I guess that means that Favre wants to think it over.

I still think Brett has another good year or 2 left. Not his fault about an injury-riddled team, nor Sherman's either, but the NFL is a business first and foremost.
Boy will my daughter be relieved to hear this. She cannot imagine GB without Brett!

I wouldn't think that this will make it likely Favre will return. Learning a new offense is hard, and Favre has been friendly with Sherman for many years. I think at this point he may well wait until the Packers name their new coach to make a decision. I think his family situation will be a consideration, and whether he feels comfortable with the new coach, and whether he feels that the team will be competitive this year. I don't think he will want to return for another losing season.

This is true, I guess we are sentimental dolts, my daughter and I--don't want to see him go out like that--with a losing record.
I do think that he still wants to play--and that he's finding it hard to just walk away--but he also needs to think abou the future of this team.
Perhaps he might want to go into coaching?

He has gone on record as saying that if Sherman goes, he goes. But maybe he'll wait to see if a west-coast guy replaces him before deciding.

He's a hard worker, but I can't see someone who doesn't need the money putting up with those kind of hours.

If he is going to go into coaching, I predict that there is only one coaching job he wants, coach of the Kiln, Mississippi high school. It was the job his father had, and I think he might want to try that.
Lionel, I think that there are very few choices that could convince Favre to stay. One might be Marriucci. They hace known each other for years. I don't think, however, that he will get the job with the Packers. Thompson indicated that he felt the Packers needed to go in a different direction, and when asked if the new coach had to be one that knew the west coast offense he said no. I think that Bates is among the front-runners. Another name that is being mentioned is Brad Childress, the former Offensive Coordinator of the University of Wisconsin. He was the architecht of U.W.'s run oriented offense. Of course Thompson may have an entirely different plan. Look for the decision to be made quickly, however. There are too many things that must be done in the off season. Signing free agents, both our own and others, and preparing for the draft will be priorities. There is a need to know what Favre will do, and he will want answers as to who will be coaching. There is also the need to prepare for minicamps, and with a new offense they will be important.

I don't know....why do I get the feeling that Brett is kinda being shown the door?
From what I've seen of him over the years--quite a bit--he wants to play as long as Doug Flutie--even longer!
There was an online poll at Yahoo sports--60% of fans say he'll return.
But who knows?

Predictions for this weekend--
Washington over Tampa Bay, Pittsburg over the Bengals. I believe that the Redskins and Steelers will be quite dangerous in these playoffs.

One reason is that Favre's departure would free up a lot of salary cap room. The Packers need a lot of new players, and that costs money. You could get a whole offensive line for what one aging quarterback costs. Favre's numbers don't support his salary this year. That is the business side of football, and is the General Managers job. It isn't sentimental or caring, it's just getting the most player for the least money.

How 'bout those 'Skins? What a horrible and offensive perfomance for the offence. But, a win is a win. Bring on them Seahawks!!

I actually think the Redskins are going to beat Seattle.Should be a great game--Washington is definitely on a roll, as is Carolina. I was so glad to see them beat the G-men today. I have tremendous repect for John Fox and Jake Delomme.

I have to WORK next weekend and I'm going to miss some great matchups!

Thank goodness for my work computer and nfl.com so I can follow these games online.

PS Can those Patriots beat Denver at Mile High????
I don't think so..........................

Predictions for this weekend:

Carolina over the Bears---Rex Grossman an unknown--he'll either play great, or play terribly, but the Panthers are hitting on all cylinders

Colts over Pittsburgh--one of the givens

Denver over New England---very very hard to win at the most hostile stadium in the NFL

Seattle-Washington---kinda too close to call but I'll pick Washington.

I agree with your first three, but I think Seattle win win.

Predictions for this week:

Bears over Carolina in a tight one.

Colts over Pittsburgh in a blowout.

Denver over the Patriots by 10 or more.

Washington manhandles Seattle, yet only wins by 3 or less due to the anal retentive coaching style of Coach Joe Gibbs.

I predict that the Super Bowl will get slightly lower ratings than the Oxygen channel and marginally higher numbers than Bush's.
I just pray that none of the Stones has a bladder malfunction.
Hawks 27-21.

Believe it or not, but this Brownie faan will be rooting for Pittsburg.
I just can't help but picture Seattle as a sissified expansion team. And I don't like Matt Hasselback.
Steelers 21
Seattle 0
