These are a few Photo's a friend of mines sent me about how people in Nigeria are domesticating normally wild animals as "pets"

Please read the following attached letter that came with the photos

"

"Just for the record. I am a world Geography teacher, with extensive
knowledge about Africa. The Hyena is a meat eating predator that
competes with Lions,Tigers and Leopards for wild game. They are germane to the
jungles and plains of west, central and southern Africa. My point is that
I did not know that they could be domesticated and live among humans, let
alone in a city. This would be equivalent to domesticating a wolf in New
York City. I cannot believe the local government has not stopped this
practice. If these animals loose the fear of humans, they will become
more dangerous and kill innocent people....including their "owners".

Please, no one ever tell me that they grew up in the hood ever again.
Can you imagine growing up in this part of Nigeria where the pets are
Hyenas? Yeah, you can bring your Pit Bull or your Rottweiller down there if you
want. ! ;But I think you and your dog will get punked right on the spot.
This is probably a Nigerian gang (notice the arm bands) rolling through
the hood. Check out the home made muzzle. And they are being walked with
truck chains!!!" :@@:

Pretty scary. Hyenas are some of the most dangerous predators, in spite of their scavenger reputation. Their jaws are able of breaking bones as easily as we do with crackers. These animals sure should not be here !
BTW baboons are very dangerous too.

Looks fake ? Not really. I'm quite familira with pgotoshop, and even if it would be possible to make up these pictures, it would be a very professionnal work. Some details like the home made muzzle, and the lack of composition of these pictures (they lack any dramatic element) makes me think they are real.
Dunkirk, can you confirm it's a friend of yours who took them and not "the friend of a friend" ?

Good thing that's not an option in the U.S. or all of those pitbull owners would trade up for something tougher.

My sisters husband works for a company that has him assigned there, and one of his associates were the ones who actually took the photos

Some years ago I knew a guy that briefly kept a pet lynx, but that pales in comparison to this.

While I might be convinced someone is actually keeping a hyena as a "pet", I really question the ability of someone to keep a baboon on a leash.

Rather mind-blowing to say the least.

Doubt thats photoshop, people live among many wild animals in towns across subsaharan africa, so this can be believable. Perhaps they have had these animals since their birth and have been managing to train them. In time, hyenas may become as normal to have around as a goat or pig or dog. I know little of their behaviorial characteristics, so perhaps this is impossible. These people who got this are either doing photoshop with their inhuman abilities or just managed to snag an amazing shot.

If this is photoshopped, we should all bow down and worship whoever did it, for they are certainly the absolute king of digital editing. I mean, how do you make people's heads turn to look at what you put in there? Completely flawless.

I have to ask though. What are dogs if not domesticated wolves?
Those baboons, though, they're probably more vicious than those hyenas...

The gangs can't afford those less than 50 buck kalashnikov's, so they must use baboons til they stockpile the cash :)

various breeds of wolves, etc and large felines etc were bred and crossbred and bred again for a very long time until they were domesticated. In the book Guns, Germs, and Steel they outlined i think it was 14 domesticated animals, all else are not able. Such as a Zebra.

But i noticed dolphins and elephants and other animals were not on the list(all of whom have not nearly reached the degree of the 14, such as horses), but they too can be trained, however minimally to interact with humans and do our bidding. In time, we shall see what they will do with these beasts.

Who knows how long they've had them :D. Besides, pretty much any wild animal, if raised by humans from the day of their birth, will be "domesticated".

Dolphins aren't on there because they aren't domesticated. They're just that much smarter than we are.

Not necessarily true, especially depending on the species of animal, and animals that have been around us for a long time have ever so slowly been changed physiologically and pyschologically. So perhaps not necessarily to the degree of the domesticated animals. Although some behavioral differences must be present.
