THAT is nice... I think we should start a money thread... ya know... is the desire for money shallow?

Grrr, Sal left me waiting several days and forgot to make a thread about money, i suppose i took the liberty of doing it myself ;). I would like to see how everyone's different religious and political views here affects what they view as money.

Money:

What's enough to live?(varies on country)
how much is too much?
Why is society and history almost completely governed by it? (somewhat obvious seeing its purpose, but could make for a good topic)
How should money be spent?
How much do you have and want?
Taxes?
Charities?
Is it shallow to desire money?
Is it righteous to reject money?

Theres a few to get it started up. Happy discussion :)

1} everyone has a different life style so it depends
2} too much is when the money starts to rule over your life.
3} When religion started to fade out as the power maker something else needed to take its place. Money=power.
4} spending money is a personal choice, but I do believe alot is wasted on materialistc BS.
5}I would be happy if I could own my land without jacked up taxes and be able to live off of my land.
6}taxes, don't we all just love them?
7}charities are good WHEN the money goes to the charity, not to some head for a new porche, United Way comes to mind.
8}Do folks desire the money or the power that comes with it? I think we all would like to go places and own things.
9}who rejects money?

Some people hoard their money and never spend it on anything. It's peculiar behavior really.

As for who rejects money? Many do, me for instance, i reject it when i have not earned it.

So if you won a million$ lottery because your allforum name is Evakian, you wouldn't except the money? I find that hard to believe.

Reposted from the last time this came up:

UG Krishnamurti's money maxims

1. Money matters most in life.

2. Be not shy about money-making.

3. Trust not anyone with money.

4. Nothing is free in this world, not even love.

5. One who worships the money god will be amply rewarded. One who worships the other God will be stripped naked and left in the streets.

6. Make money by hook or by crook.

7. Make money by any means.

8. Money talks; wealth whispers.

9. Miss not a chance to make money.

10. Quench not the thirst for money.

I never cared much for money. Its too hard to obtain, too hard to hold on to and a pain in the ass all around. Everybody wants it, is always asking for it, and you really can't get away from it.

I can't wait for the day when resources are so abundant, using money to trade them seems weird. An economy exists to make efficient use of scarce resources. Once one of the most important resources becomes mostly free, energy, we will be an order of magnitude closer to a free society, free as in both beer and speech.

Typically, I make enough money to survive, and don't bother making any more than that. It is a strategy that makes others pissed, but I love not working so much that I am willing to accept big lifestyle changes to do so. I never saw the value in the whole American Dream bit. In fact, I've given much thought to saving a couple grand and going to some Central American country to live it out. Come back here, save another couple grand and do it again, in a different country.
