hi guys!
i regret to inform you, my friends, that i may be away for a long while. as of right now, hurricane katrina is expected to make landfall somewhere in or around new orleans; the latest forcast has the eye passing about 6 miles from here. which means, sadly, that upon our return from the inevitable evacuation we will soon be facing, chances are that we will not have much, if anything, to come home to. so pray for us, please, and i hope to talk to you all again soon.

Fare thee well! And don't worry too terribly much; chances are that you'll be fine.

Wait, where exactly is the server itself located? Drew lives in New Orleans, but I wonder if he bought a remote server or what. Isn't it hosted by his company or something similar to that? If it is in New Orleans, then I don't think any one of us will be seeing each other on here for a while...

Yeh, this thing has wind surges of 207 miles per hour, the weather channel just said. Sustained winds of 175.
Hurricane winds will be felt above interstate 20.
This thing is catastrophic.

Many will lose everything, if it does not weaken.

Be careful if you are in its path.
After you evacuate, be prepared to be gone for awhile before they let you back in.

Winds from hurricanes and tornadoes aren't exactly a fun run through the park, i've been in a few.

Good chance alot of people will die unless they get out of the path of that storm, buildings will be washed away or torn up.

The SUPERDOME would make for a good shelter for tonight, lets hope that everyone still in N.O. are holing up in there.

It doesn't look like it would be. Unless the entire thing is watertight then there would be quite a number of problems...

It can hold a massive amount of people, has a covered top, and multiple floors, round structure, it will be able to function as a makeshift shelter for a little bit

But that doesn't matter if the water goes half-way up. New Orleans is below water level, have you seen pictures of what happens to cities near rivers and lakes and oceans, etc. when a hurricane of even lesser strength hits? They flood like halfway up your body, and those are above sea level.
People may hope, but New Orleans will be pretty much gone. One good thing, all those years of piss dried into Bourbon street will be cleaned out. Hope everybody has good flood insurance.

What about those bears?

hi dear friends!!!
i just wanted to let you all know that my family and i are all ok. my house suffered some pretty bad damage, but nothing compared to what others are suffering. i am temporarily holed up in alexandria, louisiana; i'm at the university here trying to transfer here for a few months. continue to pray for us, guys; some of my family lost their homes completely, along with everything they own. while it will take months for us to regroup, i consider us blessed. we were all able to get out before the worst of it happened. reading your messages was uplifting; kind words and prayers mean so much right now.
so pass the word; i'm alive and well, and i hope to rejoin you guys soon. until then...
jenny

p.s.- trav, my husband went home yesterday to retrieve a few things, and he was able to salvage our computer. i'll be back in time to kick butt in your league!!:D

I am so glad to know you are safe and OK. You have been in my thoughts since the storm. Glad to hear your family is safe too.

Hang in there. As the chinese proverb says: "May you live in interesting times". Well I guess you certainly have done that. Experiencing the worst natural disaster to ever hit American soil.

Be good to yourself, things like this have a way of effecting us profoundly without our knowing it.
