WASHINGTON - An overwhelming number of people say critics of the Iraq war should be free to voice their objections — a rare example of widespread agreement about a conflict that has divided the nation along partisan lines.

Well, it seems people are amazed that 90% of people in the United States are okay with people protesting the Iraq war...however, what I'm amazed is that about 1 in 10 people in our nation don't agree with free, peaceful protest...which just amazes me.

10% seems like a lot to me...10% of people in this nation don't agree with free protest and dissent. I think that's what is very amazing about this poll. That so many Americans are truly, Un-American...and many of you will go oh, 10% is nothing! But, it really is. At least in my eyes...

Evidently, the poll did not come across many among the flag-waving, uber-conservative, *Kill-em-all-let-gawd-sort-em-out* faction from the South...........the sort who make up the vast majority of people that I know and live around.

90% of the people polled agree that those against the war are allowed to speak their mind? Well, DUH! People can say what they please about the war, the way it's going about President Bush. The part the anti-war zongoes don't get is that people are free to REACT to what they say. So, when the Dixie Chicks, Jeneane Garofalo and, of course, Cindy Sheehan start shooting off their mouths about the Iraq thing being illegal, or Bush being the biggest terrorist known to man or whatever other idiocy these guys are coming up with, the rest of the American people are perfectly free to rebut, boycott, question their patriotism, write angry letters and in general, let the "peace" activist know that they disagree with their ideas. Don't start crying censorship when people get angry over what a "peace" activists says, we have a right to protest the protestor, too. Dammit.

Actually, what you should be saying is 7% to 13% of Americans think that dissent should not be allowed...but I digress.

Pay attention to polls. Seven percent is soooo relevant.

"Numerous public opinion polls from the last 50 years, and from multiple different countries, report very consistent and similar findings: 50% of the population believes in the reality of UFOs; and 5% of the population has seen a UFO."

Well I think 10% of the polls taken are 100% bullsh** which leaves the other 90% only 75% correct :D

I think its really sad that the most important thing in the world to some is the right to protest. Now I will get in my bunker and prepare for the assualt of Jefferson quotes and insults thrown at me for daring to use my right to free speech to speak out agasint protestors.

I think its really sad that there is a nation full of people who hold a worldview similar to yours.

itsa funny how the only thing not protected by free speech to the "protest is everything" crowd is anything they see as speaking out agaisnt protesting. They will jump your ass and beat you down severely, damn fascists

Get your panties unbunched trav. These are two different issues. People have the right to protest, and people also have the right to protest the protesters or speak out against the protesters.

What one shouldn't be doing is speaking out about the right to protest. The "love it or leave it" croud who can't or won't accept the fact that part of the reason that America is great is because we allow disent

I think it's really sad that you don't understand what 10% means.

It's sad that you think the figure of 10% has something to do with Trav's pronouncement that --"I think its really sad that the most important thing in the world to some is the right to protest."

It's also sad that you imagine yourself as having made a pithy comment, instead of a mostly nonsensical comment.

But you were the one who made the association, not lionel. Weren’t we talking about protesting the right protest??? When Trav made his statement, you placed him in the majority, and clearly, the stats indicate only 10% feel that way.

You lost me here, FT. How was his comment inappropriate?
