We were talking today about how even the bravest and most intrepid fear SOMETHING.
Napoleon was sacred of cats. Vince Lombardi feared fire. Washington and Lee feared the loss of their men's respect.
Fellow posters, what are you afraid of?

Me, heights. Don't even like being on a stepladder. I'd face a roomful of giant fat squishy tarantulas before I'd ever even get on a roof.

oh Astra, he's beautiful!!!

I am afraid of getting hurt.

A couple weeks ago, i had the girls at the playground, and I stepped into the sand funny and heard(and felt) two loud cracks in my ankle. Toatally sprained, still not the same.

However, it had to happen as soon as we got to the park, and try to exlain to three year olds who wanna swing that mumma is hurt. So I stood there on one foot and pushed a kid with each of my hands.

Awhile back I had the girls in the tub, and I had the most excruciating chest pains, all I could do was curl up on the floor until it passed. I now know EXACTLY where my lungs are in my chest. I had flashes of me having a stroke or something, with my kids in the tub, and noone was expected to come over until the next night.

I am deathly afraid of something like that happening, and my babies being left all alone.

My daughter has very specific special needs, and cannot walk, sit, eat or drink on her own. I value my physical strength more than I ever have before. I used to take being bipedal for granted, now i need to walk for two.......

so there's a peek into my deep dark fears.....

nothing else scares me. Nothing.

I know of no fears that I have other than a slow, painful, drawn out death.

Hmm...the height thing could make me sweat for sure. I have been thinking of rappelling in order to get over it. Then you mentioned the big fat hairy tarantula thing. So here is what I think...

Stick me on a cliff with the rappelling equipment all set up... dump a whole thing of tarantulas nearby, I guarantee I will be over that cliff faster than jackshit! :D

Echo I can also relate to the loss of freedom due to limited physical ability thing. That is what finally caused me to quit smoking. I was fucking terrified I would be one of those people hooked to some machine with no quality of life and limited to someone caring for me. I would rather jump out of a plane without a parachute.

Cree I can (small time) relate to what you are saying. I have animals and I am on the road a lot. Whenever I am between male partners I am terrified something will happen to me on the road and that the kitties will be left with no one knowing that they are alone and starving. I can not begin to imagine how I would be if I had kids. The kitties sneeze I hit the vets. Kids would make me nuts ...well... more nuts... :D

Dan you can always jump off a cliff... that's what Iwould do...

OK, I admit it....my third grade teacher, Sister Rosaland scarred and still scares the hell out of me. There is something to be said about a womans disposition getting nasty when she ain't gettin' the good stuff.

Sister Rosaland, a card carrying sadist who hated kids. She had a big 7 inch cross that she carried on a chain around her belt. I have scars on my fingers from that chain. And he could weild her ruler with coup de taille and no mercy.

She was big, I mean BIG, like about 6 foot 3. Her black robes reminded one of the grim reaper. He voice could make a kid shrival to half his size, her stare disintegrated little kids where they stood.

She was the epitonmy of hell to all third graders. They taught us that if we were bad we would go to hell. We knew that sister Rosaland was hells representative.

I still get goose bumps and shiver in fear at her name.

I hate spiders myself, Ivan! But we've had to kill so many, I'm not scared of them anymore.
We have some real monsters where we live...the one out by the shed had a body as big as an egg--I have witnesses to this..didn't think we had spiders that big around here--had to use a sledgehammer to kill that critter.
They are the enemy.
Also, was wondering why some people are scared of dogs? did you have a bad expereince with a dog as a youngster? just curious.
