I;'ve learned if you win at the lottery, you may not have success in cashing a winning ticket.
I had winning numbers in Ohio's super lotto and Rolling cash five last wednesday, for a total of $310.00.
When I presented the tickets to a lottery terminal agent at a Speedway station on Riverside Drive in Upper Arlington, OH, the cashier validated the ticket, then said they didn't have enough money to pay.
My mild irritation was magnified later in the day when I tried to cash the tickets at another lottery terminal and discovered the Seedway station which refused to pay me, had locked out payment by anyone else. Like most people, I assumed a business with a lottery terminal was required to keep cash on hand to pay winners. Most lottery sales agents have signs which say they can pay wins up to $599,.00.
It took 2 days, lots of phone calls and a return trip of 40 miles to get my money.
The only advice I got from the state lottery commission office was that I should not try to cash tickets at gas stations like Speedway, SuperAmerica or Marathon. It seems it was good advice which I also now believe should apply to those considering the purchase of lottery tickets or anything else at those stations.
