I remember watching the Simpsons when they were on the Tracy Ulman Show. I was only like 8 or 9, but I loved when they'd get a few minutes of air time...so, 16 years later I'm still really loving it!

The writers are so good at being none PC, and putting a message across about things being done that are really stupid (the most recent one I saw was where Bart was sent to a Catholic School, and he and Homer were going to convert...the point of it being how stupid it is that people fight over the same God, and kill in His name and what not. It was totally hilarious!)

I just love this show!

I've gotten season 1 through 5 on DVD and will get season 6 soon. It's already at the store (I saw it yesterday, but wasn't able to pick it up :( ) Anyway, it looks interesting. It is in the shape of Homer's head...I really wanted to open it to see how they've packaged the DVD's...anyone got it yet??

I was so close to opening the one I saw (Wal-Mart probably wouldn't have liked that too much, though!).

I bought it yesterday. Its a shape of homers head and inside is 4 discs. Set up in homers head is kind of neat. Hard to explain it but its a must buy set.
Now waiting patiently for season 7 which I give it another 6 or 7 months.

I've seen Family Guy, it's a good show...but it can't really compete with the Simpsons!

True, Family Guy makes me laugh.

Although Family Guy is a very funny, very good show, The Simpsons is better.
More elaborate plots and the humor is worked into them, Family guy just builds the plots/scenes around a joke(s).
More endearing characters. Moe, Krusty, Principal Skinner, Flanders, Mr. Burns and the whole gang have a presence on screen and are important and sometimes the focus or the funniest. Family guy just has Peter, and sometimes Brian or Stewie, everyone else is just a face in the crowd.
Simpsons relies more on satirical humor, on movies, politics, social issues, family issues, etc. The humor is more subtle and intelligent while also working at the slapstick level to have huge appeal Family Guy resorts to pointless off the wall acts by Peter&crew that vulgar or stupid.
Family Guy often gets me to yuk it up more, but Simpsons is more pleasureable to watch and enjoy.
And as far as comparing them goes, i do not see too much relation aside from the fact it involves a dysfunctional family in each. they have different aims, different brands of humor, different audiences, and different characters. Its best to stop comparing the two.
