I went from a 6 yr old AMD 300mgHz with 196MB ram to this:

A Dell Dimension featuring: Pentium 4 @ 2.8GHz with 1MB cache, 512MB DDR SDRAM, 80GB hard drive, 48X CD-RW/DVD combo drive, plus assorted other goodies.

that must have been pretty affordable? I really do love the fact that computer prices keep coming down much the same way as property goes up.

Welcome to Windows XP though, "All your privacy belongs to us" etc

I ahve a 2.8 GHZ with 1,024 MB RaM, an ATI Radeon 800XT 256 MB video card, new soundblaster audio card and 80 gig HD. I love it. I am sure there is someone with a more powerful system though

congrats and enjoy...you must now feel like you are surfing at the speed of light...:D

mine is getting old and soon will need an entirely new system... I have upgraded this numerous times but find each time I update that I can't be bothered to re-install all my toys... (sigh)... once it was a challenge now it is just a pain in the ass...

yeah, must be time for a completely new toy!

Yikes, why did you get a Dell?

Borg - if memory serves, you recommended a Dell to me when we discussed my getting a new one some time ago. Why a Dell? I queried a multitude of folks, went to the local retail outlets (Circuit City & clones), looked at a variety of Internet sources, and after careful consideration decided it was the one for me. As with anything else, pricing & warranty played a big part.

Sure it's fast ... it better be. I've been using cable for years.
