Following a few questions by The Praetorian about french eating habits
(here) (http://www.allforums.net/showthread.php?s=&postid=150779#post150779)
, I thought it could be funny to know what people here usually eat.
How many meals a day ? How long ? What ?Where ? Do you cook ?

Well, my meals at this very point in my life suck...
If its 1-2 weeks after ive been paid its like this...
Morning - Shreddies or Weetabix cereal with a cup of tea (2 sugars), and if im actually hungry ill ass a couple of pieces of white bread toast with that (just butter)
Lunch - Either a Chicken Salad Baguette OR 2 8" pizzas from Domino's depending on my mood, though its usually the pizzas.
mid afternoon - (the second sandwich van comes round) Chocolate muffin and a strawberry milkshake.
Dinner - really can be anything, ranges from pasta dishes, fish dishes but basically it will have some form of potatoe, some form of baked beans or other side, and a main food source. Then like a couple of apples, or bananas or whatever i pick out of the fruit bowl.
I drink water from a cooler all day long.
If its near the end of the month then for lunch its between nothing and a baguette, everything else is pretty much the same.
I weigh 140lb's and am 6ft

morning- a loaded omlet biscut or bacon/egg/cheese mcgriddle
mid morning- drink a coke zero
lunch - whatever the school is serving
after school - usually a bowl of macaroni and tomato (however today I had porkchops and mashed patatoes)
lunch - if at work: 5 pieces of chicken and 2 orders of rice.
if at home - whatevers for supper. (tonight - a footlong chicken/bacon/ranch from subway and a bag of cool ranch doritos.

Meals: breakfast, second breakfast, first lunch, second lunch, afternoon snack(ironically the biggest of them all), "supper", Dinner(small).
As for the types of food: I mix it up and cook various types of food, anything and everything.
I'm six foot and 185lbs, but i work out and run alot and often, so i have a bigger appetite. And as for the meal size: for those on the 3 meals a day schedule, each of those is about the size of each of mine, so its like eating double what you do everyday.
Yes, i am aware that i eat tons ;)

Okay, time for a little gross American consumption -
Morning (07:30) - usually two sausage egg mcmuffins, two breakfast burritos, a large orange juice, and maybe a toasted bagel with cream cheese.
Mid morning (10:30) - Usually a deli sandwich from Starbucks (they rock, mind you) and a large (venti) Tazo green tea frappuccino. (It's right next door to my work)
Lunch (13:00) - Depending on the day, I may have two grilled chicken breast sandwiches, a side of chips, a cup of tomato soup, and maybe dessert.
Dinner (20:00) - Steak, steak, and more steak. I eat at a little char-house right down the street from my home probably 5 nights a week, and they specialize in off the bone ribeyes that are really quite good, despite only weighing 11 oz's. Sometimes I switch it up and get a porterhouse, but they're pretty big at 25 oz's. I bring my 13 lb baby pug home the bone, and he loves me for it. :)
(I'm 6'1" and 240 lbs (109 kilos))
I should probably cut back seeing as to how my cholesterol is 250...

Sweet hell thats alot of calories lol, I wouldnt have the money to afford all of that during the day. A quick estimate sees that would cost me about £20 a day on food, (37$).
Which is like £600 a month (1110$) on just food!!.

I eat breakfast--usually a bowl of cereal, like Froot-loops or Apple Jacks
lunch--sandwich of some kind--today I had a chicken san that I made from leftover chicken at home
dinner--usually something frozen, like pizza or Stouffer's, sometimes fried chicken or spaghetti.
I don't eat a lot but do eat a lot of candy and ice cream, also fruit. Hate vegetables of all kinds. I'm 5-7, 125. I do smoke on occasion so maybe this suppresses my appetite? Also drink a lot of water and coffee all day long--strong and black.

I eat because i have the huge appetite from the large amount of excercise. Prae eats alot because he probably enjoys it, as do i, but that is costing him healthwise.
But i guess it has alot to do of American appetites, we eat alot more than people do in some places over in your homeland. Italians were appaled at the huge amount of stuff i ordered at their various eateries.
Plenty of water, walking, don't sleep excessively and keep busy mentally and physically. Then this huge amount of food wouldn't take such a toll on the american person's body.
To rendova, i think the smoking would would cause serious weight loss over time. You are already pretty thin, is this result of the smoking?
To Loki- £20 is what i spend on one meal sometimes :D :D :D, yes, i do allot a rather large food budget

Today I had 2 red bulls, a hot chocolate, and some water and pepsi.
I'm hungry, it's 7:45 p.m.
Most days it is like this, all the good stuff goes to the girls. They had shepperd's pie, with mashed potatoes and corn, and chocolate pudding for dessert.
I am 5'7 size 12 and I am strong and fit.

I easily spend that much. Between my mortgage, car payment, utilities, food, alcohol and cigarettes - I blow through 60 thousand dollars a year and then some. That's why Chase Manhattan Bank has a hit man after me. :)

There's no possible way you can be a size 12 by just consuming beverages. I used to have a diet like yours about 7 years ago, and I dropped from 250 to 165 Lbs at 6'1". Hell, I think I was a size 12...

Why not? Two weeks ago I was a size 14 and two years ago I was a size 18. (after having twins of course).
Seriously, what do you eat during any given day? You have to eat something...
I do eat and love food, it just seems that most days go by like they did yesterday, and I look back and go "holy crap I haven't eaten yet" It's just how it goes.
After posting I had a chicken sandwich and a salad.
I love any pasta, and shellfish, and fruit, and steak etc.
I did slimfast for a year a year and a half ago, and it really helped. Now I am just melting away to my previous self. Pretty soon I will be fitting into that little back pre-babies size 8 I've been saving in my closet.

Morning: yogurt before I work out... then a smoothie which I sip all morning: orange juice, fruit, yogurt, half a banana plus a powdered herbal concoction. (I hate fruit and this is the only way I can get it)
Lunch: sandwich and huge bunch of veggies. A whole bunch of herbal pills which contain protein and a million other nutrients.
Afternoon: homemade high-bran muffin full of nuts and dried fruit and another yogurt if still hungry.
Dinner: wine, meat, potatoes, veggies and a salad. Usually some very high calorie dessert. I looooooooooooooooove dessert.
Water all day plus a herbal concoction to help cleansing. Plus any other treats I want such as soy chips or rice chips. I also love diet lime coke.
I am a huuuuge eater. I love, love, love food. I am about 5'4" to 5' 5" and I weigh 128 pounds. I want to lose another five to ten pounds to reach my ideal of goal weight. This is the heaviest I have ever been since I gained a lot when I quit smoking. I am fine-boned and slim hipped so less weight would be better but to most I would look small since I work out 3 to five hours a week.

Breakfast - Nothing
Lunch - Usually nothing but a dew around 11 and another around 1. Very rarely I'll get some school snack like a soft pretzel.
Diner - A full meal!
And I'm like 5'10" or somewhere around there(I'm bad at judging distances and heights and such like that) and 135 pounds, since there seems to be people talking about weights. Although it seems my metabolism is no where near as fast as OD's.

mmmmmmmmm, we love smoothies here, I do them all the time. I have a funky vintage chrome-looking Osterizer. One of my daughters has a neuro-muscular disorder, and some crunchy textures like veggies and fruit are way easier on her and don't present a choking hazard (big must) this way.
We like strawberry blueberry with yogurt or milk. Or Banana.
The other day I peeled a whole handbasket of fresh Ontario peaches, and the three of us ate the WHOLE thing.
I also make all her purees. It's just like baby food, but way better. I take things like peeled carrots, or potato, peas and sweet onion boil them all together, strain off (and save) the juice. then I use a hand blender to mash it all together with butter, (add juice a little bit) and sometimes a little bit of those Heinz vegetable sauces, (they have cheese and bacon, and herb garlic). She loves it. I can even add ground beef. Or white chicken meats.
Not all the foods she eats are purees. Only meat and veggies. She can eat rice, pasta, eggs, bread, soup and so on.
Or if I do't have all the prep time and we are on the run, I share my food with her, and chew it for her, or just give her the jarred stuff (which i HATE)
Before you all die of disgust, this is very common in many cultures, and since I increased doing it for her, her weight has shot up, and she is not so fragile. Sometimes old school works best.

My my my, such poor diets here
some need to eat less, some people here need to eat more, some need to EAT
Skipping breakfast is not wise nutritionally, drinking sodas as apposed to water/milk/fruit juice everyday is taxing on your system and bones.
COOK STUFF, fast food and frozen meals are loaded with all sorts of terrible stuff that should not be eaten so regularly.
Booze+stoagies= very bad
And try balancing your diet (refer to food pyramid)

Hey, I forgot about those Osterizer things. I also have a juicer which we use on and off but it takes so much effort to use it and then clean it. Those things make the best juice ever. It tastes weird at first because it is so different from pasturized or squeezed but with your daughter's condition it might be a consideration. Orange, strawberry combination is to die for and at night before dinner a carrot/apple cocktail is amazing. The nutritional factor is over the top.

You refer to soda WATER in this instance, also called club soda or seltzer. Soda is the name that has been used to describe carbonated soft drinks since their beginning at ice cream parlors and pharmacies. Mainly because Soda water was used in it as the base.
When Moxie Cola, Pepsi Cola, and of course...Coca Cola (the first of the three) debuted the term cola came into use.
Pop is just a silly slang term that makes you sound odd (unless of course all the hoodlums around you refer to it in that way also)

My experience has been that soda is referred to as "pop" in Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, parts of Texas, Indiana, and southern Illinois. It definitely has its roots in the southeastern part of our country. In Arkansas, it's hilarious, they call it "sody-pop" or "sody-water", and I'm not joking...

Pop is midwestern, "Coke" is southern, Sodey pop is more northwestern. Cola is more often in New England. Soda is the generic term for it all.
but that is generally speaking, individual cases may vary based on the person or families choice, area of living, etc.

I eat all sort of foods, and cook very often. I became a food enthusiast in my sophomore year at college after reading The Soul of A Chef, but generally I've always been an avid eater. Since then I've made dishes from cookbooks systematically and sampled all sort of restaurants regularly. Usually I eat 2 meals a day, skipping breakfast which I only eat on days requiring intense exercise. I don't much pay attention to nutrition and never dieted; many things that are unhealthy such as fast food and frozen food actually don't taste good to me, so I needed little effort to keep myself in shape.
Sometimes my eating habit can backfire. At least I theorize so...sometimes I cook or go out to eat such varied dishes that I don't eat the same thing twice in one week, so compare to some people who regularly eat the same thing over and over, my body is always dealing with new stuff, and I sometimes have stomachaches for no obvious reason.
I enjoy ethnic dishes from all cultures and am very adventurous eater.

You are gonna make some woman, very, very happy Mr. Chef. Also I think trying new dishes is wonderful BUT I have too have to limit the number of "different dishes" I eat or I too suffer from the effects. I like spicy like Cantonese or curry and sometimes the spice just won't stay put. So my guess is your stomach reaction is likely from the variety.

Toxic Hell's food is so...I don't know what, but at one point, it was likely regurgitated and served...over and over and over again!
I prefer fruit, grilled chicken, subway, anything healthy (Go Dieting!)

You bet, anyone who thinks Taco Bell is real mexican "food" is gravely mistaken and has never had real food from south of the border

Meatwise...I only eat chicken and pork. I can't stand hamburger meat....its just something I can't stomach. I could eat lettuce right out of the garden. Love the old southern fried green tomatoes, squash, okra, and zuchini. Oh...and the staples I would die without...coffee and chocolate....Yippee!!!!

This is off topic but I've always been curious: When you go to a restaurant and the food was disappointing or outright terrible, and the waiter/waitress comes over after your first 3~5 mouthfuls and asks: "How was it?" Do you ever say: "It tastes like shit." or anything along that line?
I've never done it. In fact, I've never even said "It was just okay". I've always answered with "Excellent" just to send them away. But whenever I did that I was somewhat surpressing the urge to say "It tastes like shit, and I want to kick your manger's ass and feed your cook cow dung for dinner."
What do you usually do?

"It tastes like shit."
I would never use that terminology in a public place to another human being. But i would fill out complaint cards if they are around and perhaps have a discussion with the manager on what i found so displeasing.
I've always answered with "Excellent" just to send them away.
I do not believe i am capable of saying otherwise, my kind nature keeps me from being anything but polite to others that i am around.

okay
Breakfast - balaleet (Arabic: fried vermicelli with fried eggs and some herbs) or beans or cereal or eggs or boiled hummus beans.. Drinks are usually coffee or milk or juice
Lunch - This can be practically anything, though it almost always has to include rice. Asian dishes mostly, like Indian gravy and chicken and rice or Chinese crisped chicken.. Also, it can be stuffed food such as grape leaves and zucchini.. Local dishes too, like fouga (chicken that's cooked over the rice, I don't know how it's done but it looks yellow by the end, my favorite) and fish is a usual dish too
Dinner - any kind of pasta's, lasagna's etc. and sandwiches, it could be chicken sticks. we sometimes order from restaurants

Hi innocent sweety, nice to read you again.
What kind of food is "traditional" Dubaļ cooking ?
Is it close to Indian, Lebanese or any other country's cooking ?

A not very enthusiast "very good" if I feel the waiter was OK. I would in no case be rude but if the food is really disgusting I say there is a problem. It happened maybe two ot three times in my life - once in Athens where we found a public hait in our food, once in Paris when, after a quite bad meal, I was served a frozen dessert with the plastic sheet where I could read "remove before baking" !
But I really hate people who make a lot of fuss in restaurants, probably because my father used to do so and it was very embarrassing !
I also feel waiters and waitresses don't deserve to be treated like shit by customers.

And i hate it when people don't tip waiters, take away their pay for a day and maybe they will see it differently on paying waiters/waitresses.
I've never been a waiter, but i consider not tipping them at all to be very rude and improper

I agree (I remember a debate about tipping on thi forum a few month ago). IMO waiters and waitresses have a rather tiresome and low-wage job, they deserve it (except if they are really very bad, which is uncommon, even in France)

Well it's nice to be here again :)
Traditional UAE cooking? Hmm, well it's not close to Indian neither is it to Lebanese. It has its own style, and some foods are full of oils. The most traditional dishes would consist of fish, as it's big here. Grilled fish, fish with some gravy, fried fish, fish with different herbs and etc.
You can say that the food is close to the gulf countries' cooking aka Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and etc.
The kinds of food that are traditional would be things like the vermecelli thing I mentioned for breakfasts, as well as the hummus beans. For lunch I'd say fish is traditional. Other foods can be things like harees (pounded chicken with flour and oil, tastes amazing - though it takes a man to make one cause u need to pound the chicken really hard to make it soft and chewable, male cooks usually make them), breads, well there's khameer which is usually made for breakfast too, and it's absolutely delicious, I don't really know how it's made though I think that honey has a say in the process. Sweets, well there's halwa and it feels like jelly only it's full of sugar and the color is brown and it's eaten hot not cold. A particular favorite regarding fish is sliced fish with tons of salt and lemon, mixed with chopped onions and tomatoes, it tastes absolutely delicious with white rice. There's also a kind of pounded fish that looks like powder and is mixed with white rice and topped with lemon and some oil for taste.
That's all I can think of now, for what we eat nowadays.
In the old days they'd drink camel milk and the such; they were bedouins who'd travel the deserts.

Hi Innocent sweety. How nice it must be to live in U.A.E.! I'm soo jealous! (no evil eye)
I saw a documentary about it and it's just beautiful.
Have you ever dined in that 7 star hotel Burj Al-Arab? It looks so beautiful with the aquarium as walls.
If you haven't dined there please do so and come back here and brag to me about it, I'd love to hear all about it! :0)

7 star
SEVEN STAR?!?!?!?!?!
How do you get 7 stars?
Do they have a team of five servants that follow you around and tend to you every need?
Stewie: "Cut my milk"
Servant:"I can't sir, its liquid"
Stewie:"Freeze it and then cut it, imbecile!"
Stewie: "you, fetch me the wall street journal, you two fight to the death!"
(the two men begin a duel with a window shade and lamp while another runs off to get the paper)

Burj Al Arab is a 7 star hotel with one of the most amazing restaurants I've ever seen. If I remember the documentary right to stay at the hotel starting reservations are $3-$4k per night
http://www.burj-al-arab.com/dining/ Here's a link I found on the restaurant

lol yeah I think that I remember reading somewhere that Burj Al Arab is the only 7 star hotel in the world. It's ridiculously expensive though. You have to pay 200 Dhs I believe just to enter, that's the adequate of approximately 54.35$
The Crown Prince of Dubai, H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, owns it. Bill Clinton stayed in it when he visited Dubai. Here are some pics:

Back to the OT
Breakfast for us is usually something light like a toasted bagel w/ cream cheese and avocado with a variety of fruits and a yogurt honey dipping sauce.
Lunch today was chicken caesar salad with fresh bread.
Tonight It'll be chicken with preserved lemons, saffron, cinnamon and kalamata olives again served with bread. This takes very little time to prepare. (well not the bread)
We eat alot of food indigenous to Northern Africa but I LOVE raw seafood and can make a mean sushi roll ;0)
