By now, we've all heard of the passing of ABC Evening News anchor - Peter Jennings.

I thought it would be nice to hear everyones reflections on the man, his life, and his legacy.

And please-rather you like him or hated him--please keep this respectful.

Keep it respectful???!!?!? Eat shit and die Jennings! haha just kidding

I respect him, he brought the news to Americans for over two decades. Someone who can remain on national braodcast TV for 22 years must be doing something right. He was loved by many and spread world events to many Americans watching at home.
Although i never tended to watch him and disagreed with his spin on the news, he is the greatest journalist perhaps ever. More so than Rather or Brokaw, who were his competitors who stepped down late last year after years of competition with him.

He leaves a hole hard to fill for journalists and TV news everywhere.

Rest in peace Peter, you've done well.

I liked Peter Jennings. He died very quickly after being diagnosed. Lung cancer is quite a death sentance with a very low chance of recovery.

My dad died of Lung cancer.

Cancer is a sad disease to be diagnosed with. My grandfather recently was diagnosed with Lung cancer.
Sorry for your loss Drew

Sorry to hear about your loss Drew, and of your grandfather's diagnosis. When my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer...it was a very hard thing to deal with. He live d for a quite a while with it--but it spread from body part to body part, eventually withering him away. I almost wish he had went earlier.

On Jennings...I was shocked to find that he went as fast as he did. I watched the special on ABC, and then Anderson Cooper (Jennings' prodige) 's coverage of the events on 360. I have always respected Jennings although I watched Brokaw a lot more growing up. Through the recapped images and the testimonials of his family, friends, and even his competiors --I gained a newfound respect for him.

God Speed Mr. Jennings.

I remember Peter Jennings covering the withdrawal of the marines from Lebanon. He was standing on the beach while the battleship Wisconsin was offshore shelling the hills behind him. The marines were being loaded onto landing craft to leave, and he was interviewing them. I think anyone who can conduct a reasonable interview with 16" shells being fired over their head deserves a great deal of respect. He will be missed.

Imagineer,

That seems to be the thing he is most noted for. Above all things, the owner of ABC said, he wanted to be a reporter.

I think his kind are sadly disappearing. Very sad news.

it was big news, at least if you flipped to ABC for a few minutes (which i do not and will not because of my vendetta against thee BIG THREE networks). Happened a few days ago and they are all pining about him.

You could have also seen it on CNN (especially Anderson Cooper 360 and Aaron Brown or whatever his name is.)

He was huge in the news industry. Both of the other major networks also demonstrated their respect by honoring them on their show as well.

ABC done a terrific job though.
