...in modern day life.
1. you go in to buy something and the sales help has you sign something, saying, "Sign this for me." Sign it for THEM? Aren't I signing it for ME?
2. The sales help, instead of saying "thank you" for a purchase, instead just gives you your change (usually wrong) and mumbles, "Have a good one." Have a good one WHAT?
3. You let a motorist ahead of you and they pull in as if it is their RIGHT, with nary a wave or nod of thanks. Makes me feel like I was in a tank so I could crunch them for their lack of manners.
4. Offering a guest a drink or food and they respond, "Nah, I hate Coke/Twinkies/beets", etc. What ever happened to merely saying, no thanks?
5. Receptionists and others calling you by your first name upon very short acquaintance, and then the look on their face when you respond by calling the doctor or lawyer Bob, Jimbo, or Bubba.

Manners are a thing of the past for many people. They view it as weak. They view themselves as the only one who counts for anything. Everyone else is either an asset to be used for their self gain or an inconvenience to be deal with in whatever manner they choose.
Sucks to be them
They get their payback every day.

Ever been walking along and get stuck behind someone who's smoking? That's what irritates me the most.

If you offered me beets i would leap out the nearest window screaming, otherwise (with any other food) i would just go with No thank you.
Manners is lacking everywhere! Smokers are definitely prime guilty parties.
What do you think the decline in proper manners in people today is?

I get some very, very rude customers at work. The main thing that gets them is where it is a Long Johns and AW we have two versions of combo 1-4...so theyll say give me a number 2.....and ill ask which one and there start screaming and huffing and puffing.
Some people need to get their nerves in check.

I'm not sure what the reason is, for the appalling lack of common good manners today, in all sorts--young, old, black or white.
Maybe it's because the parents of today are just too busy to teach their kids the rudiments, such as saying "please", "thank you", or holding a door open for an older person, or taking a few minutes to write a thank- you note or respond to an invitation. Also in many tv shows and movies both the kids and the parents show a real lack in showing common courtesy to each other, much less strangers...this is meant for a laugh, but in real life, it sure can be not funny. I have always felt that I can overlook many faults in a person, if they at least treat others with courtesy.

Stress is definitely a major factor. People are so harried and stressed that every little thing they have to endure becomes a major hurtle.
Another would be lack of patience due to our instant gratification society. Some seem to believe that desire should equal instant acquisition or fulfillment. It's also why we are a fat society and becoming more stupid yearly.
And lastly self-respect and a sense of inner dignity. One can not respect another if one does not respect themself. As for dignity, if all behavior is acceptable then they do not view rude behavior as depreciating them in anyway.

I blame it on paranting. Kids today are taught that they are the center of the universe.

It is not allways the parents fault I know many older folks 30 thru 50+ that are just as rude as any kid of today. The problem is society as a whole, very simply put, no one gives a sh**.
