i listen to Metro and Roulette almost daily, such amazing songs.
They were different, and their style is unique, I enjoy listening to them and have had the pleasure of seeing them live. A Truly electrical set and it had us moshing for most of it.

Yea, those are good songs.
These guys are original and make art for the sake of art. Some of it is really brilliant. Aerials is my top pick (off the Toxicity album anyway).

Their first song, I dont even know the name, had this sound thing that was in it a few times...and it was my ring tone. Anyone know what the crap I'm talking about?

B.Y.O.B. is quite possibly the craziest song I've ever heard.

Chop Suey is one of their top works.
The lead singer (Serj Tankian) can sing pretty fast, and the backup/guitar (Daron Malakian) often is employed to scream for effectual purposes

Yeah, I noticed on both sets that they sped up and slowed down so much it began to give me motion sickness. (rimshot)
It was annoying though.

hehe motion sickness.
Yea, their music is definitely appealing to a selective audience. Or it is an acquired taste i suppose.
I can easily see why people would love or hate their style.

Their sef titled album and Toxicity are the best. Mezmerise is pretty good but it isn't as good as the old stuff. Serj has an amazing voice...I'd rather hear him than Daren. That is the biggest flaw of the new album.

Aerials is my top of all of theirs, and it was their overall best seller. Well, at least their only one to hit 1 on the charts (and it stayed for awhile)

Yea, you either like it or acquire a taste for it over time, otherwise i expect most to hate it

Very true, he chimes in screaming and changes the pace of the songs sometimes, annoying.
I advise everyone to check out 'Questions' off their latest album mesmerize. Not "choppy metal shit", no daron chiming in (just providing backup) and reminded me of aerials.
Check it out: Questions

Ive heard lots of their songs, and seen them live which has lead me to think Daren does justify his postion as backup (and everynow and then lead, singer) simply because it adds that second element of sound where as bands like Soil have one singer and their brand of rock does nothing for me. (except for breaking me down which is just catchy as hell)
If i can find this local bands demo ill post the music for you guys, they (whilst denying it) have copied SOAD's style and actually pulled it off really well.
I recommend "Psycho", lol great song by SOAD

I've all their songs on my computer, and nowhere did that lil' fella impress me more than Lost in Hollywood on the latest album Mesmerize. If serj had taken lead the song probably would not have been the same caliber.

Hmmm, just going to revive this old thread for a bit-
Their new single Hypnotize has been released, their first off of mezmerize's sister album hypnotize. Just a heads up, check it out for a sample of the upcoming album.

I've been listening to System of a Down since their first album, and I must say, their style has change quite a bit. Like many bands, I feel that their new stuff just isn't as great as their old music. The new album is just... meh, it's just not that great in my opinion. If you really liked that album, and haven't heard their first one, then you're missing out big time. Songs like Soil, War?, Sugar, those were the songs that were great. Ariels and Chop Suey were great as well, but honestly, it doesn't come close to being as good as their old work. Don't mind me, just rambling about a band that I listen to.
