Is anyone going?
We're not, but we're having a Brickyard party at the house. I'm sure hoping that Tony cutie-pie Stewart finally wins this thing, as he's a hometown boy. Go Tony! The crowd will go NUTS!
Anyway should be a great race with accidents galore.

I used to dislike it myself. I was strictly an open-wheel fan. Being a Hoosier, how could I NOT be?!
I thought NASCAR was boring-- too slow, and the same guys won all the time. But since I've been a regular viewer, for the past 9-10 years, it's become my favorite sport! I love the excitement, the spectacle, the 3 wide in the turns, the bumpdrafting, the feuds, the accidents, the sound of the racing engines, Roger Penske, Darrell Waltrip, and Tony.
And there's no Danica in sight. We're not THAT desperate for fans!!!

I watch the Daytona 500, and then nothing else the rest of the year.

I don't really have an open-wheel preference, I just don't like watching cars drive in circles. I demand right and left turns.

Well they do have road courses. Such as Watkins Glenn (atleast I think its the one....thats done way passed the point I quit watching--which is the first race.)

Yes, besides Watkins Glen, they also have Sonoma in California. The road race specialists like Boris Said usually do well at these courses, but these tracks sure play havoc on (some) other drivers and REALLY mess you up if you're in a fantasy league. The lowest score I've gotten all year was at Sonoma! Don't really know why they have these races at all cause it's not really NASCAR in my mind.

Well, I'm sure this a lot of people out there like Lionel who wants to see turns in a race and just not a bunch of drunk red-necks driving around in circles.

That's not very nice, jerejere. I'm all for different styles of racing myself, but to call the NASCAR drivers "redneck drunks" is unfair and untrue. A guy can be a talented driver no matter where he's from--why call him a redneck just because he's from the South?
And any guy who drives drunk out there, at any track , would last about one lap.

Could it be that the Wildcat is jealous of our great Hoosier tradition in racing--of ALL kinds?
Ha--don't worry--you guys should be getting a decent track one of these years.:D

I only like horse racing where the horses turn left and right. ;)

Actually they have a really good track (well, for an oval). It's only 3-4 years old. But NASCAR won't give them a race.

Racing Tradition, eh? How about the Kentucky Derby---the most tradition filled race of any.
And speaking of Wildcats and Hoosiers-we have 7 national championships and more wins than any other team in history....um...what do you all have? :D

I've got two places for you to visit. Sparta, KY (one of the nicest tracks in around--hosts Bush Series and Craftsman Truck series)--will eventually get a Nextel.
And, of course, Churchhill downs.

LOL, yep, you guys have been kicking our butt lately in basketball. How I wish that Coach Knight was still at IU. But that's another thread....
On a racing note, I guess a lot of people don't like NASCAR. Hey, that's their call. But to call the drivers and fans redecks and drunks--well---Ryan Newman ,from South Bend, holds a degree in engineering from Purdue. THIS is a redneck? Biffle, Johnson, Gordon, Stewart, Mac Murray, the Busch brothers--none from the South, so I guess they're not rednecks!
As for horse racing--I love those beautiful animals. Even if they do cost millions and eat better than most KIDS in this country. But to me, it's a huge buildup for 2 minutes of frequently nothing. And the rich folks at Churchill Downs stand around drinking those horrid mint juleps and talk about how much they spent on their outfits. Sure sounds like fun!
To each his own.
