For those of you who seen the home-run dirby...I want to know what you thought of the amazing display by Bobby Abreu.

Hitting 24 home runs in the first part, and like 40 plus overall.

I was simply amazed.

Here's a trade for you.

Kevin Stocker (http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/stockke01.shtml) for Bobby Abreu (http://www.baseball-reference.com/a/abreubo01.shtml).

Well....I didnt really even know he was much of a power hitter at all.

After all, I think I heard this morning that he has never hit more than 31 in a season, and he was hitting lead-off in the game tonight.

As a life long Phillies fan, I can assure you that this is the real deal. Abreu has the sweetest swing and can hit the ball with power to all fields regularly.

Nice to see that he gets some attention from the rest of the country finally.

I think the interesting thing will be to see how he handels the attention he will be getting.

It seems like the betting man's choice would be to say he crashes and burns...but I am going to say he has a stellar career from here on out. Not a cooperstown worthy resume, but a credible one.

He's been having a good one so far. The only knock on him is that he seems to be a little lazy on defense and reluctant to hit the wall after fly balls. But with his swing he has a helluva chance to lead the NL in hitting one year.

After this All Star game I think his days of flying under the radar are over.

While the HR derby thing WAS amazing... it does only prove that he can hit 70 mph balls out of the park.....

This guy is being WAY over-publicized....

He's having a good year... but get off his nuts.....

And the whole "World" HR Derby thing is a joke..... first off they had 5 NL guys and only 3 AL guys. Second they had guys who only had like 13 home runs in it.... *yawn*... id rather see a washed up Sammy Sosa. Why wasn't Arod in it? Even though i hate him... it would bring respect to the derby.. and Derrick Lee???

That was really stupid.

I have to admit...I dont really know much about him from the defensive side....but he does look like he has an awseome knack at the plate.

I dont want to come off like a blowhard, but i probably will. The baseballs they used in the HR derby were wound tighter than the already "juiced" balls that they use in today's game. During the broadcast, one of the guest players referred to them as "golf balls" they were hitting. I believe it was a slip of the tongue as the broadcasters didnt even acknowledge the comment and quickly changed the subject.

Not taking anything away from Abreu, but does anyone here think he has more power and better timing than Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, etc.??? Not to mention that Mark and Sammy were hopped up on 'roids, using corked bats... etc., when they participated in the contest and didnt come anywhere NEAR Abreu's totals.

I love the game of baseball, but todays professsional game is starting to look less and less like baseball to me. Think I may start watching minor league games more.

Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were very good power hitters in their day, whether or not hey were roided up.

However, Bobby Abreu is a PURE hitter, he strokes the ball to all fields and also uses power on occasion.

The major leaguers on the whole are very jaded due to their huge contracts. The wife and I go to Reading often (Phils AA club) those guys still play with hunger.

Also the beer is cheaper there. ;) ;)
