I wanted to bring something of interest. No, it's not "Season 3 of Charmed comes out in __ months" or "Noooo they're cancelling ____"
I wanted to tell you guys about an amazing movie I managed to watch on the IFC channel at 3 am. It was great. Beautiful, yet twisted. The name was HAXAN. 1922 Swedish Silent Film. I was interested because the name was "Witchcraft Through The Ages." Original title was HAXAN, and that's how I will refer it to.
Anyways, the movie was about witchcraft. It was more religiously based, though. I can't really tell you the plot, because to me there WAS no plot. Just events. For example, a witch is convicted and is forced to testify. They'll kill her if she doesn't, so she lies. She tells the Catholic Priest(s) that during the Sabbath, many witches would ride on their brooms to HELL and kiss the devil's ass (seriously. He'd bend over for them.). Any scene with Lucifer was horrifying. He was a creature of terror, and you could see it in every square inch of his body.
Anyways, the director of the film, Benjamin Christensen, wanted to write the movie with the help of historical experts. He found out, though, that not many were interested in it. Most of them were against the creation. Chirstensen did it by himself, and the film was magnificent.
One of the most brilliant scenes was when a wife discovers her husband had been bewitched. The wife asked the doctor who was the one that bewitched him. "You may see her sooner than you wish." said the Doctor. He left the wife pondering the meaning of the statement when Marie, the seamstress, appears. She is an old hag of about 65. She is hungry and lives on the street...what happens next...WOW.
You should really see this film if you haven't yet. It's worth 2, 4, or even 10 dollars. It's more formerly known as The Criterian Collection now, but it's original name is Haxan. And make sure you get the ORIGINAL 1922 version. They made another in 1941, and yet another in 1960 something. Just watch it.
