In the late 1800's most people's favorite past time was reading and theatrical plays. From there came radio, then came movies, and then came television as a national favorite. As technology advances, what do you think will be the worlds next great source of entertainment beyond television?
I believe that the generation after television was electronic games.
They are becoming more and more advanced. Advanced participation may be next.
I personally have been suprised at the way people have taken to reality t.v.
I suppose that peoples lives are so boring that they must live the lives of others. But then, that was what the movies was all about.
Arm-chair adventure.

Reality, interactive experience...where you feel like you are participating in the action... This already exists to a degree.

Is there any topic here on these boards where Bush won't be accused of some kind of evil? I guess I'm hoping for too much.
It could be possible for virtual reality to replace the TV. A kind of thing where you put on a head set and suddenly you are "in" another place. Rather than looking at a flat tv screen, you could look around. For instance, if there was a "show" on a particular museum, rather than seeing what a camera is pointing at, you could walk up and down the halls and see things for yourself for as long as you like. IT would be interesting for newscasts of protests, or even movies.
Then maybe, they could take first person shooter style games and use virtual reality. Instead of the flat tv screen, you are "in" the game and its happening all around you. It would be interesting, to say the least.

The Army was designing one for training. Also, some guys created a virtual reality Quake 2 with this giant ass computer strapped to your back. In college I plan on specializing in VR and AI. :D

I'm afraid that in the future things won't be sponsored by MS, they'll be running on MS.
"Damn fridge crashed again. Hold down the little switch that turns the light on and off for 10 seconds while simultaneously pressing the ice-cube dispensing lever."
"I already tried that. We're getting a 'bad milk' error."

And you wonder why we tell you to stop using IE.

I don't know why, but for some reason I'm thinking that the internet may have a bigger impact on us in the future than T.V. does right now

Holograms.
VR is restricted by the headset. It still works, its just not as authentic and only one person at a time/per headset.
Smells? Sensations? they're already toying with mood (through ambient lighting)

Virtual Reality seems like it would be the next big thing. Imagine coming home after a shit day at work and being able to visit like a serene lack in the middle of nowhere as you kick back on a little boat and just chill.
Or yeh, it would add some seriously interesting elements to Quake, Unreal etc. Not to mention MMORPG would be massive.
The downside is people would become somewhat addicted to it, with them being so popular, rich or powerful in these virtual enviroments that they could suffer some serious withdrawel systems when they come off of it, and most likely be sitting at work just waiting to get home and plug in.
Not to mention the world is heading towards asthetic perfection being the selling point of most things and in this world you could be the next Brad Pitt.
Which moves me on to the obvious sexual intentions of such devices and the problems of underground illegal software hinting at such extremities as Paedophillia, beastality, Extreme fetishes and the like.

I hadn't thought of it being used that way...BUT...if they went there in their imagination maybe, just maybe they wouldn't need to really do it...

Well, the way I see it, pedophiles molesting virtual boys is a hell of a lot better than pedophiles molesting real boys. The problem is how to program the thing -- can't model it off real boys.

Video games already are bringing in revenues topping movies, they have taken the throne as the big favorite.
They continually get advanced and will become true virtual reality simulators that we take part in physically and mentally.
Thats my idea
I think television will not be replaced by anything in about 100 years , but the display size will surely increase.:)
