ROME - An Italian judge has ordered the arrest of 13 U.S. citizens linked to the Central Intelligence Agency. Italian authorities charge the Americans abducted an Egyptian imam from Milan, in northern Italy, over two years ago.

Italian magistrates say an Egyptian imam was seized from the streets of Milan in February 2003. They say CIA agents were responsible for the abduction of the man, known as Abu Omar, who was believed to belong to an Islamic terrorist group.

Presumably, none of the individuals will ever be sent back to Italy, and extradition requests will be denied. The practice of kidnapping individuals all over the world and spiriting them away to be tortured without the permission of the host country will in the end alienate other countries who might be inclined to help us. This sort of situation is also why the U.S. has declined to participate in the World Court.

Thank God not everyone bows to the US in economic fear. However Italy is not the country I expected it from. IMHO the judge should also put charges up against anyone who helped the Americans (assuming there were some).

Ecuador just made the news because their said they were unwilling to let US soilders act like psychopaths in their country. The US, of course, threatened to cut off all aid the Ecuador. This bribery worked on other countries but Ecuador said "oh well". At least some people have spines in the world.

This is what I would expect from the Italians, after the Achille Lauro incident when the hijacker was captured on Italian soil and the Italians released the man responsible for pushing a elderly jewish man in the wheel cair overboard.

Sorry had to jump in Glad to be back :)

In the Italian system it is very rare for the Judicial part of the government to communicate with any other part of the government. I suspect after some checking we will find out that the Italian intelligence service knew exactly what was going to be done, and this story will just go away.
