If our gov't fails to adequately fund stem-cell research, that is cruel and immoral. This is bigger than politics.
It's nice to have faith. Really, it is.
But know this: We cannot simply sit around and wait for God to snap his fingers and make diseases such as MS and Alzheimer's go away. It is the duty of humankind to resolve these issues just as it was to find a polio vaccine.
How many of you remember what occurred on 9/11/01? I saw it on TV, and I don't remember the part where God intervened and stopped those guys. Get the point?
And if the Joint Cheif loves freedom so dearly, he can quit bowing to the extreme, bible-beating jagoffs & grant science the freedom to pursue whatever avenues necessary to develop vaccines or even the cures for AIDS, diabetes etc. that have eluded us for eons. It takes money, & this would actually be a prudent use of taxpayer dollars. Freedom isn't free, right?
I guarantee you. If Bush or any of his GOP cronies or cheerleaders is ever diagnosed w/ MS, they will be begging for someone to inject their self-righteous asses with the stem cells.

I totally agree. To put the care of a few cells that MAY someday grow into a human over the care of human beings that are alive and suffering is ludicrist. They say they are pro life. Their actions are anti life.
Another consideration is that while we sit back on our collective asses and do minimal or no research, other more enlightened countries are allowing it. Can you imagine how much money will be made for the country that finds a cure for aids or MS or alxhiemers. We might as well write Korea a check now and get it over with. They are very advanced in their stem cell research. I'm sure they will put the money to good use---like more WMD pointed in our direction.
Why is freeing a bunch of Iraqis more important than curing Americans of these diseases? Over 300 billion spent in Iraq. That could go a long way in medical research.

Several of the far-right congressmen (can't remember which ones) have come out in favor of stem-cell research for exactly that reason. They know someone it might help.

In name of late former President Ronald Reagan, legislation has been introduced in the House that would provide $85 million in federal funding for stem cell research in fiscal year 2005. Many experts believe that stem cells, which can morph into an array of different cell types, have the potential to cure diseases like Alzheimer’s, which plagued Reagan.

I am not against stem cell research, but there are two things that make me suspicious of this issue.
1. Stem cell research was rarely talked about until it became a political weapon over the past 5 or so years. I question the sincerity of politicians that are suddenly more interested.
2. The R&D departments in the pharmaceuticals spend billions and billions of dollars in the attempt to make more money by finding the next wonder drug. They're not cheap nor are they naive. If they thought there was real potential in it, they wouldn't be waiting for the government to mail them a check.
The government has not banned stem-cell research, but the knee jerk reaction among the less informed would have you believe as much. The title of this thread shows me that their influence has permeated your thoughts on this to some extent.

Great post and i couldnt agree more. Because of mixed breeding and scientific research we have all but stunted out ability to naturally evolve any further.
I would love to see those people who suffer daily with these horrible things to be cured.
