'Known Travelers' Can Bypass Security At OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Airline passengers who submit iris and fingerprint scans at Orlando International Airport will be able breeze through security scans this week, according to Local 6 News.

OIA is the first U.S. airport to implement the pre-screening security program.

Frequent fliers can enroll in the Registered Traveler program beginning Wednesday.

OIA is the first U.S. airport to implement the pre-screening security program.

Passengers registered as a "known traveler" will submit to a background check and iris scans.

After submitting the information, passengers will be granted express access to the airport's security checkpoint and avoid the long lines and random inspections, Local 6 News reported.

I don't get the problem. Anyone can sign up for the program. If they pass the security check then they are in.

The only people left out are those who can't pass a security check. What about that bothers you?

Do you have a problem with racial profiling?

The point is the same. When you set up a system that is suppossed to provide security but then say that this set of people here is exempt from such measures there is little doubt that your next attacker is going to come from that group of people. Its myopic and short sighted. If anyone is going to attack you they are going to do it the easiest way possible. If that means spending $3000 on plane tickets for 4 months and using someone with a clean background then it will be done. If they allow things like this then they might as well just toss the whole "improved" system.

I'm not a big fan of the "improved security anyways. If the airplanes were hijacked on Sept 11 with nothing more than boxcutters there is absolutly nothing that can be done about hijackings. There are such things as plastic knives. Shit someone could even just bring a picture frame, break it in the bathroom and tape the handle, viola, 5 knives ready to be used.

I have an uncle who tries to sneak things into the airport every time he goes. He gets away with it every time too. This last time he had a cup of coffee. He managed to pass it around the outside of the metal ditectors, right in fromt of the screeners and they didn't have a clue.

But the point is if security measures are in place they need to be applied to all people, otherwise they are useless. The BTK killer should make this painfully obvious. He pretended/was a "good christianman" whom nobody suspected...exactly what he intended.

I don't think you understand how this works. These people actually have to get a higher clearance than the rest of us. They have criminal background checks, FBI checks and iris scans. Every other travler just shows a driver licence and he's on a plane.

What do my irises have to do with racial profiling? All irisis are black... :D

How so? These people have already passed high level clearance and short of someone exchanging irises how can they be impersonated? They/we/you will have your irises checked each time you travel.

People have always been getting background checks in order to be entitled to certain conveniences.

Guerilla, have you ever used a credit card or an EZ Pass?

The point is there could easily be a 'terrorist' with an absolutly impecable past. All it takes is one...

Where did you hear that??? Irises are pigmented, and Echo, they don't scan irises; they scan the retinal area.
