A lot of college age students drink alcohol. Usually quite a bit. I had my first taste of booze this past school year, and I'll admit that I'm... more than a fan. I was the type to wake up the morning after and quickly grab one more drink. Then again, I've only had less than a dozen "drinking sessions", so it ain't that bad yet. But it does seem that drinking, whether in binge form or otherwise, is acceptable at the college level. But when is it truly an addiction?
Any stories/opinions about when alcohol use becomes unhealthy?
Do you find that alcohol enhances sex?
How do you feel when your significant other goes out drinking?
And for the hell of it, what's your favorite drink?
And as a side note, a friend of mine is offering a 1 liter bottle of Absolute Vodka (regular or citrion) for $20. I've never had either...which would you recommend?

alcohol becomes a problem when it takes over your activities...meaning you cant do anything unless acohol is involved.when it becomes first on your list of have too's.when it becomes first over your family.when it rules your life....when you feel thats what you need to have fun......

I recently went through a rather painful breakup with my girlfriend of 8+ months, and I fell hard. I immediately went to my friend Dwight's house and convinced him to let me have some alcohol from his father's liquor supply. I filled over half a soda can with Smirnoff vodka, and had 2 or 3 additional beers all within an hour or so (I'm 6'1", 170 lbs). I was seeing double and had some trouble staying conscious. Dwight and I walked our other friend Kellen home, and on the way there I had to lay down in the street, partially collapsing and partially trying not to throw up. We got Kellen home, then walked back to Dwight's so he could drive myself home. Foolishly I drank yet another beer in my drunken state, resulting in throwing up at least 10-15 times. I got home at 3:00 am and didn't want my parents scolding me. So I went to the backyard to collect myself and instead passed out for a good half an hour. When I woke up I went inside and quickly made my way to bed. The next day I tried to go to work but had to go home sick.
This instance made me realize that when the chips are down, I seem to rely on booze to help myself. While I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic since I rarely drink (a dozen times this year at the most so far), I do drink far too much when I do.
I'm not sure what to do about this. Do I need medical help? Am I simply a 20-year old college student working my way through this (I drank for the first time this past February)? I just...I just don't know.
Any advice, opinions, etc are most welcome.

I've actually never been pressured to drink. In fact, my friends typically try to get me to stop, saying that I've had too much. My memory wasn't great from the other night, but my friend informed me today that I had a full soda can worth of vodka and 3-4 beers. I would have had much more if I hadn't gotten so sick. I'm lucky I even woke up this morning...I'm a skinny guy and I hadn't eaten too much and was already dehydrated before drinking. Alcohol has become a problem because of one person alone, and that's myself. My friend said I actually hit him when he tried to prevent me from drinking. But at least I'm aware of my problem and I'm attempting to work at it. As of now it's easy because I still have a hangover. Fingertips are numb, stomach ache, warm feeling all over, and slight dizziness. It's been 24 hours now and I'm hoping this goes away by morning...

As a person that enjoys his beer, I can say this.
I had to give up the hard liquor, whiskey. It only took me about 20 years to figure that out, coupled with the threat of my beloved wife leaving me. It seemed that every time I had gotten into some kind of trouble, whiskey was involved somewhere.
I haven't had a shot in at least 5 years and I don't miss it a bit. I have learned to moderate and don't always have to get loaded when I drink my beer.
I guess the thing is, you have to control the bottle, not let the bottle control you.
So I'll stick to my beer and have an occasional doobie as well. Much better now, I don't get into the trouble that whiskey had caused me. I'm glad that I finally figured it out, tough shitsky that it took me so long.

I dont come into this section a lot, Loki...but I'll comment now.
I believe occasional drinks (or even more than occasional if it is under proper moderation) to be ok.
It's when you are chugging them down for no reason, and drinking over and over just to be drinking when it becomes a problem.
