I was reading Le National Enquirer (ok fine I missused Le...whatever) and I stumbled upon an article that just amazed me.
"Why Was This Man Freed To Kill? Evil Tony Pope murdered his wife and two children after his early release from jail for killing a girlfriend...."
Hmm. Ok so we chuck the whore in prison for killing his girlfriend. This happened around 1995-1996ish. So, the guy gets a life sentence of 15 years (What, the life sentence of a dog?), but is released on parole in 2001. That's 5 years (proving that the education system in America is just screwed)! After his release, his wife, Andrea, has another child, making that two kids and a family of 4. That was around Easter. Weeks later, the wife asks for a divorce, stating that she was leaving with the two kids: 13 year old Andrea and 5 week old Christian.
What does Pope (Yeah. That's his last name :-s) do? He crushes Andrea's skull with a hammer and leaves the body in the laundry room. He strangles 8 pounder Christian, and chokes his daughter while stomping on her chest. The bodies were found in their home on May 2nd. What did Pope have to say about this?
"We're going to be married until death do us part."
Well, thanks dude, now I'M afraid of getting married....
Anyways, the guy confessed he did the thing. He had also previously confessed to killing his girlfriend back in 95 bashing her to death with a frying pan. He got sentenced to 15 years in prison...and got out in 2001.
What did Andrea's family have to say about this? "You get caught with marijuana.....and you go to jail for 20 years.......kill someone.....out in five. What kind of justice is this?"
Which leads to the NEXT article right below the one I was just bitching about.
This one dude thought it was pretty fun to steal a 140 dollar television set. He got a life sentence. How long did he stay in la prison without parole? 35 years....for a $140 tv. Compare THAT to 5-6 years for 3 humans' lives. What the HELL is that?
The guy cost North Carolina taxpayers $29,000 a year...which is juuuuuust about 1 million buckaroonies so far.
There is a boo-boo in this one, though. Back in 1970 when this crime happened, the guy had snuck into a woman's house, stealing her black and white set. Under an old law back then, this was second degree burglary and it could carry a life sentence. Now, it's just for 3, trois, tres, whatever years.
Still...what kind of JUSTICE is that?
