Widening EU benefits mostly 'young European democracies' servicing American interests in Europe. Baltic states gain being the major supplier of cheap manpower into Old Europe. Amid this background the 'indigenous' so to say population is in the red for their labor evaluation in money goes down. Poland gains as well due to her goods flooding Europe due to protectionist policy supported by the USA. On top of that Poland is getting subsidies from the European budget (it's kind of grant at the expense of the EU donor-countries for orchestrating the 'orange revolution' in the Ukraine). Lithuania sees her development strategy in the EU predominantly in the light of huge financial donations in the EU. Add here those countries' territorial claims in Europe to get the realistic picture of the widening process. The whole project is looking just a trap for major European countries! With 'raw' Ukraine being imposed on us by those Poland and Lithuania things could turn from bad to worse. The overhauling of EU could better it IMHO.
