I find it ironic that the name of the school is the Tangipahoa Parish School.

If you truly follow Jesus' teachings - prayer should be offered in private.
That said;
What I wish is that the amount of time/money/effort related to the school prayer issue, could be directed to the improvement of our public school educational systems. We are NOT doing a good job of teaching our kids. We are too busy pissing and moaning about prayer, evolution, and the rights of individuals (i.e. teching to the lowest common denominator) and have forgotten to actually EDUCATE children.
Both sides (Christian fundamentalists and the ACLU) are guilty of attacking these inane "pseudo issues" that only detract attention from the real problems in our school systems. The rest of us are guilty of sitting back and doing nothing.
It's like having a child injured in a bike wreck, and fighting over how his hair is combed, instead of taking him to a doctor...........stupidity.

good post OldPhart and I agree 100%. I was allways under the impression that school was for teaching and learning not b***hing about who or what a kid{person} prays to. Well, There probably isn't a good story in how Johnny got a 98 on his math test.

The ACLU, as alluded to in the link, objected only on the grounds that prayer over a loud speaker at a public-school event violates the First Amendment establishment clause.
Those who fret over the ACLU making "too much" of this issue would do well to remember one thing;
Not one schoolchild in America has ever been prevented from praying at a public school........period.
Nor is there ANY way whatsoever TO prevent it even if an organization were to be so inclined.
This ""Our children are not allowed to pray in the public schools!" canard on the part of the religious faithful is a farce.
America's schoolchildren are free to --and NO ONE AND NO ORGANIZATION HAS EVER TRIED TO PREVENT IT-- offer a silent prayer to any diety of their choice at any time.
