Another State has bowed to the powerful insurance, big business, and Chamber of Commerce Lobby. West Virginia's Legislature has voted to take away a citizen's right to sue an abusive insurance corporation in a court. Instead, the lobbyists made sure that the Insurance Commissioner would hear complaints, but, the WV Insurance Commissioner has no real powers to fight for the State's citizens.
The newly Elected Governor of West Virginia backed the insurance reform measure sought for many years by the big insurance cartels. Governor Manchin has put his reputation on the line with this political move. The powerful insurance lobby in West Virginia promised to give back West Virginians $50 million in premium cuts, but, they would not sign anything, so it has no teeth.
This kind of injustice is happening in almost every State. Several States have tried unsuccessfully to change back to court challenges, but, because of the big money involved, no dice.
Now, in West Virginia, one of the poorest States in the Union, an insurance customer can no longer sue in a court of law an abusive insurance cartel. Tough luck finding democracy in America these days. Iraq can look forward to this kind of democracy.
What do you think? What is your State doing for you or for the big powerful lobbys???

You made the jump from WV to Iraq in a couple sentences. Impressive.

being from wv and lived here most of my life, we do tend to get screwed over a lot. but what else do you expect from people who have a governor who is convicted , sent to prison, comes back, runs again, wins, and then gets sent to prison again. go figure.

That's Karma for sending a Klan recruiter to the Senate.

WV has a convicted governor ... not too many brains (twice voted for bush) ... has an economy that resembles a toilet that needs flushing (see not too many brains above -- bad economies and bush go together) ... and they get suckered in ever 4 years by the GOP with the the dems are gonna take your guns away meme ... you would think by now the WV folks would figure out that they've been hearing that for 50 years and no one has ever had a gun taken away by a dem ... ROTF

OTOH ... they have the mountianeers football and Charles Town racetrack.

guess it ain't all bad

More W. Va. Karma:

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds." -- Former Klansman and current US Senator Robert Byrd, a man who is referred to by many Democrats as the "conscience of the Senate", in a letter written in 1944, after he quit the KKK.

Why is it that Robert C. Byrd is one of the only sensible voices in the Senate or the Congress for that fact. Mr. Byrd did vote against the war and giving war powers to the Chief Ex. and he did "quit" the KKK. If America had followed his advice in the past 10 years, we would all be better off, in my opinion. He is extremely disingenuous (read: lying) about his "quitting"

"Asked why he left the Klan, Byrd told Fox News Channel's Alan Colmes: "My wife and I, we're born-again Christians. ... We were baptized in the Old Church Yard at Crab Orchard Baptist Church in 1946. ... That changed my thinking in many ways. Time, reflection and the teachings of the Bible" helped him cut his ties with the Klan, said Byrd.

BUT, here's a letter he wrote AFTER quitting:

"Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
