Yeah they get record deals. They release a record that doesn't even make it to the top 10 and then they go back to their hillbilly lives....Seriously. Look at Justin Guarini! The only good one that came out of this show was Kelly Clarkson.

getting a record deal doesn't mean anything unless you sell records. Anybody can get a "record deal" there are a million independant labels.

Season 1 - Kelly Clarkson has sold records, none of the others have
Season 2 - The winner (the big black guy) hasn't sold many records, Clay Aitkin has sold more than any other idol contestant - but even he is now a has been
Season 3 - Fantasia has sold some records - about 1/3 as many as Clay

Season 4 - they are all crap relatively speaking - I doubt any will sell many records.

The "rockers" are just going to look like big pussies when they try to go back to singing in bars.

The whole AI franchise is starting to wear a bit thin, maybe they will have AI5 - but it should die after that.

I enjoy watching AI - but come on, the whole thing is a measure of the depths the whole music industry has sunk. Talent is not a commodity of value these days. Mass marketing is king. AI has so many bullshit marketing angles it makes your head spin.

Notice the coca cola on the judges desk, the red 'coca cola' room. The cingular text votes, the contestants selling their soul to Ford motor company singing songs while driving the latest crappy Ford car.

This aint what music is all about. It's packaged crap for the brain dead masses.

The new Mustang looks very sweet. I've driven a couple older Mustangs (never owned one or anything), even GTs, but I've heard nothing but good things about the new ones.

Betcha they last about two years before falling apart in the tried and tested Ford style, though...

Pray For The Soul Of Betty is named after a friend of the band, Betty who died. Constantine has only gone on American Idol for the exposure. 30 million plus watching every week. One does not have to become a sell-out to get exposure. The band has sold over 1,000 CD's since Constantine showed up, but American Idol knows that Constantine is who he is.

He's still a pussy. He's got an ok voice, but very average - there has to be a million better singers out there than any of this AI group. Why are they not on AI? because they are not pussies.

Dave Mathews is a singer songwriter, although I don't care for him, he's his own making - not something dreamed up by marketers and recruited like the Spice Girls were.

I'm not a fan of VC or DM - but given the choice I'd choose VC everytime. At least her songs have melody. DM churns out hundreds of songs that have absolutely no melody whatsoever - they are very very boring. Occasionally he has a tune with melody - but his quality control on what he releases is lacking.

I liked, and still do like, his first two discs. Unfortunately he'd been re-releasing the exact same CD every year with a different name. I got bored with him because he never changes.

I saw him in concert 4-5 years ago and it sucked. A major part of the problem was crappy lawn seats and being surrounded by slacker frat boys, the other problem being that I really don't like jam bands.
